Abby
I only have one love now—the home furnishings business I’m building into an empire. Maybe money and success can’t love me back, but they keep what’s left of my heart safe. One-night stands are my way of scratching the occasional itch I get for something more. And no one’s better for that than a sexy as sin hockey player I’ll never see again after one very hot night together.

Luca
I used to love two things: hockey and women. But now my nieces and nephew are my top priority, because I’m raising them after tragedy stole their parents. Somehow I balance single parenthood and my career as a forward for the Chicago Blaze. There’s no time for women, until I get knocked on my ass by Abby Daniels. She’s everything I’ve ever wanted, but her devastating past may end us before we even get started.

Wow. This series has the most husband worthy heroes and the best covers...

Ok, so this one is about Luca. Sexy, responsible single parent to his brother's three young kids. (Both his brother and sister-in-law died tragically) Luca's a star forward for the Chicago Blaze. His life used to be all about hockey and women, but now his nieces and nephews are his top priority. Since he has no time or desire for a 'relationship ', all his sexual activity happens as occasional one night stands.

Enter Abby. A beautiful, confident, furniture store owner from NY in town overseeing the construction of her new store. Abby meets Luca when he steps in to get rid of a guy harassing her at a hotel bar, and sparks fly. Abby propositions him, and off they go to her hotel room for one...steamy...night. Yum. It works for both of them, and they agree if she's ever in town again, she'll look him up.

Abby never thinks she'll want/need to see Luca again, but something about him (besides the obvious ) makes her happy. So they develop a little hook-up relationship, but eventually that's not enough for Luca. He wants more. He wants to know what makes her tick. He wants to know more--if only she'll let him in. Because this lady has one tragic backstory...Will she open up to sweet, sexy Luca?

Oh my. I have to admit at first I wasn't too wild about Abby. She seemed kind of cold to me. And then as more of her story was revealed, I grew to admire her. What she went through....And how she managed her pain...my only question was 'why wasn't she in therapy'? (Since Luca and his little family saw a therapist...)

But anyway, I loved how Luca and Abby were gradually able to fit into each others lives. Their sexual chemistry was amazing, but I also liked their emotional chemistry. I was rooting hard for them to become a little family, and I loved the support that Cora (Luca's 10 year old niece) was able to give to Abby.

This was a beautiful, sexy story that made me shed a few tears. I especially loved Luca--what a dad, What a lover, What an all around good guy.
What a series.

This is the second story in the Chicago Blaze series and it had all those lovely book feels that I crave! Luca is mentioned a few times in the first book and the snippets shared there were enough to pique my interest. This can be read as a stand alone though :-)

Luca is the sole caregiver of his gorgeous nieces and nephew. Their parents were taken tragically and the last 18 months have been the most difficult time for all four of them. Each of the children have their own unique personalities and are dealing with their loss and new living arrangements the best way they can.

Luca’s focus on family is what drew me into this story. He absolutely loves and adores these kids and they love him in bucket loads too. Every decision he makes is based around them, he has a hugely busy career as a pro player in the NHL so his schedule is insanely busy. All of the kids have extra curricular activities and at times he feels like he is treading water. However, he has never let them down and is present for every important event they have.

Having a social life is not really on Luca’s agenda these days but when he is at away games he enjoys a beer with the guys and the occasional one night stand. His dating life stopped when the kids moved in. One night he is out with the guys when he meets Abby. Neither of them are out looking to meet someone but it just happens. The ridiculous connection is there and they share a very heated night together.

Abby is a successful business owner and very career driven. She lives and breathes her job. She has no room in her life for anyone else so the occasional one night stand is her only form of companionship. However, she will not ride the same rollercoaster twice, she won’t exchange numbers and she will not share anything personal. Basically she is closed book, except for when a man like Luca has his head between her legs...

There is just something about Luca that Abby can’t shake (it’s not just his magic tongue) so she takes his number just in case they are in the same city again. This is just the beginning of a casual relationship between these two. Luca can’t stop thinking about Abby and has feelings for her that he never expected. Abby is battling with her inner thoughts and believe me when I say that this poor lady has the most incredibly sad reasons for not wanting to commit to anyone.

Here’s the thing about unexpectedly meeting someone you never knew you were missing in your life. It will mess with your heart, not because it’s wrong, because it feels so damn right. Abby also realises how much she can learn from children, they see the world so differently to adults. While we may over analyse and overthink things, kids are much simpler than that. There is one particularly poignant moment when Abby is having a conversation with Cora and my heart just melted. She got schooled in the most beautiful way by a 10 year old girl on how to deal with grief.

Seriously, you will not regret picking this book up, I start reading it after dinner one night and finished at 1am. I could not put this beautiful, heart warming story down. A wonderful read!

Read it but I don’t remember much from it but one thing I do remember is how hero called the heroine’s husband a coward after he committed suicide when his baby girl was pronounced brain dead. It bothered me. He knows the love that a parent has for their kid because he’s rasing 3 kids and said that he would walk in front of a car in order to save them. Imagine the heroine’s husband not coping, feeling guilty because he was driving although it wasn’t his fault but the other driver’s fault that his daughter was killed. He still felt guilty that he was alive while his daughter was dead. Yes he left the heroine to deal with their daughter’s death and his, would I call him a coward? No I don’t think I would because I don’t know what’s going on someone’s head when they commit suicide. It’s hard for a parent to lose a kid. So hero had not right to judged him and called him a coward.
Other than that he was ok hero, a good parental figure to his nieces and nephew.
I did liked the heroine. She knew what she wanted in bed and asked for it. She wasn’t a shy woman.

4.5 Luca and Abby Stars

This book can easily be read as a stand-alone in the Chicago Blaze Series.

Luca is an absolute sweetheart of a Hero and he is a beautifully written character with just the right mix of tough hockey player and loyal, likeable hot guy. He has had to step up and care for his two nieces and nephew after they lost their parents. Luca’s life has been completely upended but his fierce love for the children is apparent throughout the story. Some of their conversations are hilarious.

If Luca is friendly , fun and a roll with the punches kind of guy , then Abby is a much darker , almost lost in herself character. She has lived through a tragedy and she appears on the surface to be coping but she really isn’t. My heart aches for Abby - her character is written perfectly because you can practically feel how isolated and broken she is but she also radiates strength. It’s a curious juxtaposition but this author absolutely owns that with this heroine.

The book could be very dark but there are more than enough funny and bright moments to balance things out. I loved Luca’s refusal to let Abby go. Yes , their passion is off the wall hot but he pursues her because he sees so much more than that.

HEA? Yes. Very sweet epilogue.
Cheating? No chance. These two are solid.

SPOILER ALERT / Trigger

-Bereavement / loss of close relative. Death of a child.

Brenda Rothert scores big with “Luca”, the second book in her Chicago Blaze series, a sexy heartfelt romance set in the world of professional hockey.

Abby has one goal in life: to keep what’s left of her bruised and battered heart safe by keeping busy by expanding her furniture empire and only has time for occasional one-night stands. She never expected that the hunk who rescued her from unwanted attention would blow her mind over night, much less upend her life and help make her whole.

When his nieces and nephew lost their parents, Luca selflessly stepped up to raise them while balancing his NHL career. He’s been doing a great job at both but has hardly enough time for himself, much less date, until he meets the intriguing, sexy and take charge Abby Daniels. But their combined suffering might just be too much.

Luca is an absolutely swoon worthy hero and a story that will melt your heart and keep you feverishly turning pages with its delicious chemistry, sweetness and achingly palpable feelings.

The attraction between Abby and Luca sizzles from the very moment they meet and every time they’re together, but clearly both have time and geography restrictions and most importantly both are guarded. Luca’s reasons are plainly obvious for the reader but Rothert builds up the tension between the two and the reasons behind Abby reluctance to give more and carefully spaced out one-nights. But when all is revealed and emotions are laid out in the open, you can’t help but desperately want these two to succeed at love.

I just loved everything about this story, from the cover to the angsty twists. All the characters, main and secondary, were wonderful. There were so many sexy times balanced by sweet and also tension filled moments. Simply put, every page was teeming with emotion and I loved every minute of it.

Luca is book #2 of the Chicago Blaze series by Brenda Rothert. It is a standalone hockey romance, told from both points of view, and has a happy ending. No cliffhanger.

With the unexpected death of his brother and later, his sister-in-law Luca becomes the guardian to his nieces and nephew. While out with the guys on one of his rare nights away from the kids he meets Abby and they agree to a ONS

Abby doesn't do relationships, she's a workaholic who occasionally hooks up with guys. She's built her company over the years and focuses all her efforts there. After her one night with Luca however she can't get him out of her mind. Though they eventually agree to hook up whenever they were in the same area she keeps Luca at arms length, but his charming manner persuades her to soften her stance enough to attend a hockey game but seeing him with the kids just brings up memories of her traumatic and heartbreaking past

**************

I really liked this one, Luca was such a sweetheart! I loved his relationship with the kids and his persistence with Abby
I didn't think I'd like Abby because she kept pushing Luca away but I really couldn't blame her after what she'd been through. I actually came to admire her for moving on the best she could after what she'd experienced
These two go slowly with weeks and sometimes months between seeing each other yet the relationship worked well enough

No cheating or OW or OM drama
Single parent H as he's guardian to his brother's kids
h lost her husband and daughter a few years previously
Both only had hookups though H didn't come across as a manwhore

Good golly! Who’s ready for all the feels from Luca and Abby—two broken souls who have each experienced such tragedy, but really and truly need someone to love them wholly, even though they both deny that need.

Abby. I don’t even know where to start. You’re a pillar of strength. A true phoenix who’s risen from the ashes. But, girl, you need to open your heart to love again. Someone like Luca who’s dealing with something just as difficult and challenging. Someone who’ll love you through your pain.

And Luca. You’re enough. Let me tell you that again. You. Are. Enough. And you have enough love to open your heart to Abby as well as your nieces and nephew.

Ack. I can’t even right now with these two. Abby and Luca are perfect for each other. They balance each other out. And they have such huge hearts. I loved their interactions. Their denial of feelings until those feelings totally won out! Abby and Luca are super sexy together too—but they’re also great out of the bedroom and with those adorable, fantastic kids.

I couldn’t read Luca fast enough to make sure Abby and Luca had their happily ever after. I am so enjoying this smart, sexy Chicago Blaze series. And Vic is next! ~ Missy, 4 stars

I absolutely fell in love with Luca from the first moment with his purple glitter nail polish and love for his family. He has been through so much in such a short time but he is a remarkable man. Abby is struggling to make it through life but she is also a remarkable person. Together these two are steamy hot and perfect for the other. The both needed the other to find their missing piece in this thing called life.

I’m a sucker for hockey romances and Brenda didn’t disappoint. There’s just the right amount of action on the ice and off. The story is sweet and swoony and emotional and angsty all in one with some humor mixed in. Plus don’t forget the sexy hockey players.

Luca can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read Anton first. You’ll get sucked into this series and want more and more.

This is the second book in this series. When I reviewed Anton, I used two criteria, outside cover and inside story, I was that taken by the cover. This one I’m going back to the usual since while I did like the cover, it’s not even close to the extent of her last book. But good news is I liked the story inside this one just a wee bit better.

Luca, star forward for the Chicago Blaze Hockey Team is the absolute best hero. Honestly, I dare anyone to read this book and not fall for him hook, line and sinker. He used to have the perfect life, good looking, good health, a pro athlete. He had money to spare and pretty much any woman he wanted. But then his life took a 180 turn when his beloved brother was killed in Afghanistan and only a year later, his sister in law died of cancer, leaving their three young children alone in the world and Luca has become their guardian. The book opens a number of months later and Luca’s life has taken a 180. He is devoted to his 2 nieces and nephew and is doing a great job in looking after them. He puts them above all else, but, being a normal red blooded, healthy guy in his prime, well, he has his needs if you get my drift and every once in a long while, his parents will look after his charges for the evening while he tries and usually scores and not in the hockey scoring kind of way.

Abbie is our heroine. She is an amazingly successful owner of a growing number of furniture stores. She’s based out of New York City but is opening a store in Chicago and is in town for business. But after business she’s open for pleasure, again if you get my drift. She’s having dinner one night in the hotel bar/restaurant when some jerk starts bothering her but Luca comes to her rescue. The attraction between the two of them is incredible and since neither is the least bit interested in any kind of relationship, they agree to a one night stand of mutual ‘satisfaction’. And satisfied they both are even though Luca feels a level of guilt for staying out all night when his niece notices he never made it home.

Though they agreed to one time only, things were so good between them, when opportunity arose they met again, and then again until Luca admits to himself that he is developing very strong feelings for Abbie. But the closer they get, the more freaked out Abbie gets.

I’ll admit that at first I didn’t care that much for Abbie. She came across as cold and uncaring. When she found out that Luca was guardian of his brothers kids, that was a deal breaker. She was all set to end the relationship and call it quits. But by this time Luca was too far in and not about to let her go. He sensed there was something much deeper going on. Once we see behind the mask that Abbie wears and what an incredibly brave and heartbroken person she is, there is a complete turnaround. She is a true heroine and not just in the romance kind of way. She is remarkable. And I’ve already stated that Luca is an amazing hero.

This is an amazing romance and one that I’m going to read again and again. I thought Anton was excellent but for me, Luca tops it. Except for one or two maybe, I’ve loved all of Brenda Rothert’s books and this just might be my favourite. This is getting FIVE Very well stars from me.

5 star Review Luca (Chicago Blaze #2) by Brenda Rothert

Although this is the second book in the series, it is a stand alone and it is not necessary to have read book one, Anton before reading Luca. However, do yourselves a favour if you haven’t read Anton and one click. One of my favourite books from Brenda Rothert, ever; Now, on to Luca.

Luca is just as swoon worthy as Anton. His love of family, his strength and the support that he shows to those he loves is overwhelming. There are also many truly snort worthy, laugh out moments whilst reading and I was riveted from the first to the last chapter.
Chicago Blaze is fast becoming one of my favourite series and I cannot fathom how Ms. Rothert can top the two books she has written so far in this series. Emotional reads that will get your feelings going, this is a book you do not want to miss out on reading.
Abby is the perfect woman for Luca and I am so pleased that these two got together. Both have experienced so much tragedy in their pasts that they truly deserved to find happiness. This is an emotional roller coast of a read that I highly recommend. I laughed, I cried but throughout it all I loved Luca and Abby, both separately and together.
Not going to say anymore other than do yourselves a favour and one click this one on release. You won’t be disappointed and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

There's something incredibly heartwarming and endearing about a single hockey player who embraces his family; becoming the caretaker of his nieces and nephew. He's not alone, he has help, but Luca is unique in his spirit and conviction. In Luca, Brenda Rothert creates a sweet and sensitive man who stole my heart from page one. But, this is also very much Abby Daniels story. A woman show has survived the unimaginable. In Luca, Abby will find the man who makes her heart beat, and scares the beejesus out of her.

I absolutely adored this book and am solidly in love with this series. When Abby and Luca meet and decide to pursue something a bit more then the originally intended one night stand, it appears to be magical. It doesn't take long for these two souls to recognize what they have, but Abbys' heartbreaking history gets in the way. But Luca knows ho to reach her, and thankfully Abby is smart enough to see her second chance in this amazing family.

I'm relatively new to Brenda Rothert and I am in awe of her storytelling. If you love sports romance, DO.NOT.MISS.THIS book. this series.

Abby and Luca, 2 different people, 2 different cities. Both not wanting a relationship just a hook up. No feelings involved, everything is working great until it's not enough anymore.

These two will break your heart. I fell in love with Luca, he's everything. He may have never been in love before or even wanted to be in a relationship, he wants more and will do everything to make it happen. He loves his nieces and nephew like their his own and just make you go awww.

These two will make your heart go pitter patter, have tears in your eyes and hope that they get their HEA.

What better thing to do on a holiday Friday then curl up with a hockey romance! I just finished Luca, book 2 in the Chicago Blaze hockey series by Brenda Rothert. She waisted no time getting to the steamy sexy between Abby and Luca. This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster right from the start. These two separately have gone through so much tragedy it guts you. As a mother, reading what Abby went through just about killed me. She is an unbelievably strong woman and I’m thrilled she and Luca found each other. Together they’ve healed each other.

The book was a definite 5 star read. It’s an emotional read that’s bound to leave you with a book hangover. Although it’s the second book in the series, you don’t need to have read the first book to read this one.

Erster Satz:

Luca is the second book in the Chicago Blaze hockey romance series. There are glimpses of Anton from book one and hints of players to be featured in future books, but don’t be afraid to read this as a standalone.

Luca is an amazing hero. He is young and has taken on the care of his brother’s children after they lost their parents.

“…I don’t know if I’m enough or if I’m doing a good job with the kids.”

Abby is a very successful entrepreneur. She fights her attraction to Luca a bit. She is up for a one night stand but is carrying around way too much baggage from the past to be ready to find happiness for the future.

“I’ve walked the darkest of paths life can send a person down, and I’m still here. I keep breathing and moving and functioning. Some days are easier than others.”

This story is fun and flirty with laugh out loud moments and some really fun locker room banter. But it is also a story that packs an emotional punch. I’m not afraid to admit that I cried both sad and happy tears with these characters.

“Do you like hockey?”
“I don’t know much about it, to be honest.”
“I could teach you a few things.” He winks at me, causing a flutter in my stomach.
“Oh yeah? Is this a setup for a joke about your stick?”
Luca’s eyes twinkle as he gives me a big smile. “Young lady, my stick is no joke. It’s very serious business.”

To be completely honest, I first picked up these books because of the covers... I mean H.O.T!! But these stories are SO good and deliver on ALL THE FEEL!

“I want to find a way for us to work. I’m a better man with you in my life.”

-5 Stars!-

This is book two of the series but can be read as a stand alone. Really a delight to read. Nothing to complain about when we have a sweet romance combined with a single parent. Adorable kids and just enough angst/stress to make things interesting. And the cover?? Pick this one up just to stare at that all day!

Luca is just an all around great guy. Life has thrown some curves his way but he is moving on and doing the best he can for his new charges. Hockey gets in the way sometimes but he has back up plans.

Abby has a painful past and keeps everyone at a distance. A once in awhile fling is all she is looking for. Luca blows her away. they both soon realize this may be more than a fling. Forgiveness and healing needs to take place first. Thank goodness children seem to know just what to say to make our days brighter.

Not much hockey in this one but a great story non the less. Can't wait to read more about this team!

This one really put a person through the wringer with emotions. I loved how Abby and Luca met, how both were no nonsense about what they wanted, a night of hot sex and that was it.

Luca was great with the kids. Would he rather not be their parent, yes because that would mean their real parents would be alive, but he was doing the best he could and the kids were good.

Abby came off as a bit of a cold bitch at first, but when you heard her story, OMG, my heart broke. That she was even as good as she was, was a miracle. I loved watching Abby thaw out, to come back to life. Were there some set backs, sure, but she and Luca were able to work through them, heck even Cora helped Abby work through some issues and did it in a way that worked for them both.

I loved the ending to this one, loved that there was a HEA and a way for broken families to heal.

This book is so good! You have to read it. I love books with children in them as they always have some of the cutest things they say. Unfortunately Luca has his two nieces and one nephew for sad reasons. Luca just melts my heart with how good he is with the children and always puts them first. I felt so bad for Abby once I found out about her past. I was so glad she made a friend with her personal trainer as she had some good advice for Abby. I think Abby and Luca are so good together and the children are just the icing on the cake! Their journey has many ups and downs that will touch your heart. I strongly encourage you to read the book. Although I very much enjoyed the general book experience, I found the story a little depressing in parts.
It was something that almost made me put it down, I want entertaining by a book, I don’t mind a little bit of bad news in a book but. wow, this one almost became laughable. How can one family have all that tragedy.
That’s why it lost a star.

4 stars — This was a strange one for me, b/c I loved both Luca and Abby’s individual stories, and their eventual together story, but it took me a bit to be invested in their romance…but I was still satisfied in the end.

I was so intrigued by Luca and his situation when we met him in Anton’s book, and he didn’t disappoint. He was a hero who was so easy to fall in love with. He was kind, honourable, easy-going, with a deliciously dirty mouth. I LOVED the way he was with his nieces and nephews. From the first chapter in his POV, I was hooked by him. I felt his grief, his struggle, his concern over how well he was doing raising these kids. He was what I love in heroes: a GENUINELY good guy. And while I’m usually not a big kid person, you couldn’t help but fall in love with Cora, Jack & Emerson. They were unique, delightful, but also realistically kids (so not delightful all the time). I loved the family he had created with them.

Abby took me a bit longer to glom onto, because we got her story in bits and pieces. The Abby we first meet I had nothing in common with, and while I liked her, I didn’t connect with her as well. But as we got to know what made her tick, I did empathize with her past and how that had shaped her. I particularly LOVED her friendship with Percy. I sincerely hope we see more of Percy in this series, because she was easy to love.

As for Luca and Abby together…well, they were hard to become invested in at the beginning, since they started as a genuine one night stand. Sure, the steamy chemistry was good, but I find I tend to be less invested if I don’t get the feelings first. I actually didn’t really feel the growth of their feelings for one another…it just sort of happened. It wasn’t believable for me. BUT, if I just accepted that part, I loved where their relationship went once they sort of stepped things up. It’s kind of a conundrum, but I decided to just go with the flow.

As I mentioned above, there were some great secondary characters in this one, from the kids and Percy to Luca’s teammates.

I think normally the misstep in the relationship would have had me marking this one a 3.5 stars or lower, but I really loved the individual stories, so I decided to go with my gut. Luca’s story alone was worth the time reading. Can’t wait to see who Victor’s going to match up with!

While reading the previous book in the Chicago Blaze series I was immediately drawn to the sexy and talented Luca as he took on the duty of caring for his nieces and nephews after the death of his brother and sister-in-law. Managing both his career on the ice, and learning the ropes of single fatherhood, changed Luca and in this book we see a man mostly confident in what he’s doing with a few moments of uncertainty. The moment I met Abby I knew she’d be an intriguing match to Luca, living with her own doubts while showing the world a tough exterior. What starts out as a casual series of one-night stands soon takes a more serious turn as each became more invested in the other. What was once casual soon becomes heartfelt as unvarnished truths are revealed that lays both of their hearts on the line in a romance full of heart and soul.

Luca Campbell’s the kind of hero that makes you melt. A talented hockey player with a heart of gold, a true gentleman who didn’t hesitate to take on the role of single father, also makes Luca an unforgettable hero whose story gave me all sorts of warm fuzzies. At the start of the story Luca’s just getting the balance right when it comes to work and fatherhood, devoting himself completely to both while leaving no time for himself. A rare night out with his teammates though ends with him spending the night with a woman who will change his life irrevocably. At first he’s content with their casual fling but he soon wants more and goes after Abby wholeheartedly, never letting her hide behind her pain and fears. It’s an adult relationship on display as Luca actually wants to talk things out. He doesn’t let Big Misunderstandings fester which made for a stronger story and put him in an even more delicious light. He’s supportive when Abby needs acceptance most, never judging but instead showering her with love as his tender ministrations warmed my heart. When it comes to the physical aspect of their romance Luca easily switched gears to be quite the dirty talker in scenes that were scorching and that had him frantic to find a connection to her away from everything else in his life. Moments out of the bedroom showed them to be a formidable pairing as Luca came to count on her support too as they slowly became a family. Scenes between him and the children he’s playing daddy to were sweet and it endeared me to him all the more as he never hesitated to be a part of girly spa days or coaching baseball. Through it all his actions pulled at my heartstrings while putting a smile on my face.

Abby Daniels is at the top of her game, a strong-willed businesswoman who doesn’t let her personal life get in the way. She’s completely devoted to work, showing the world a tough exterior of no-nonsense, but behind the facade is a woman still grieving for who she used to be. Sleepless nights, weight loss, and moments of panic still rear their ugly heads when she least expects it though and it’s those moments that had me aching for her. She tried to bury the pain of her past, dulled it through work, and tried to do so in her casual nights with Luca...until he wouldn’t let her hide anymore. Just as she tries to push him away he pushes back in a battle for her soul and their future that led to her revealing her truly heartbreaking past. Abby survived things that would've broken most people, reinventing herself to move past the heartbreak. Where she was once a homebody and caretaker, she’s now a self-assured boss who doesn’t take guff from others. Once she meets Luca though her past comes back to the forefront as she helps him during a family emergency that has her questioning who she’s become and if she can be what Luca needs in his new life too. Abby’s an immensely appealing heroine whose past broke my heart. Her reactions to all that befell her were understandable and the strength she called on to keep moving on had me rooting for her. Before Luca she was constantly on edge, but around him you could see a weight lifted off her. Though she was at first shocked by his having children she seamlessly took on a motherly role when a family crisis left him in need of a babysitter. Her time with the kids pulled at my heartstrings and showed a softer side to her, one where she could stop and smell the roses. Scenes like these were a balm to her soul and they brought a tear to my eye as they gave her a glimpse of all she could have if she just took a chance.

From start to finish I found myself fully invested in this couple and rooting for their HEA. With a sweet and sexy hero and a strong-willed heroine hiding her vulnerabilities, I was drawn to this couple as each made the other better. Their romance started off frantic but soon became sizzling as fun and flirty banter took on a more heartfelt and emotional vibe. As one-night stands turned to weeks together their connection deepened, becoming more serious, as they dealt with her fears over the past head-on. Along with their intense romance was heartwarming time spent with Luca’s nieces and nephews (Cora, Jack, and Emerson). These scenes warmed my heart and showed how easily they could be a family if Abby just let go of her doubts. I normally don’t care for children in romance books, but this trio made me smile. They were larger-than-life and full of unexpected wisdom. They brought out a caring and gentle side to both Luca and Abby and made their coupling even stronger. Alongside this sweet and sentimental family-in-the-making was an equally appealing cast of secondary characters, some being teammates we’ve seen before as well as a few new characters. Amongst those who caught my attention most was Luca’s teammate Vic who’s just gotten burned in a romance with an actress and who’s clearly looking for a fight. The other character is Percy, Abby’s personal trainer, who’s a strong support to Abby when she hits a low point and who has her own painful past. These characters called to me and I hope to see more of them in the future. Fans of sports romances will find this a nice balance between action on the ice and off. While there’s plenty of emotional intensity when it comes to the journey to HEA for Abby and Luca, there’s also some exhilarating scenes during hockey games and in the locker room that shows the playful and brotherly vibe between the players. By the turn of the final page I’m left satisfied and ready for more from this thoroughly entertaining book series!

4.5 Stars

She doesn’t just need a man; she needs me. And the more weeks and months that pass without me having any interest in other women, I realize maybe I need her, too.

Luca Campbell has his hands full, not only is he a star hockey player for the Chicago Blaze but he’s also raising his two nieces and one nephew after tragedy stole their parents. He’s managing pretty well, although his new life leaves little room for women. That may all change, though, when he meets Abby Daniels one night. For the past few years, Abby has thrown herself into her work, building a wildly successful furniture business from the ground up, as a way of running from her tragic past. She’s not looking for love so she relies on the occasional one-night stand when the need for companionship strikes her. That’s all she intended Luca Campbell to be, but one night turned into two, and two turned into so much more. It doesn’t take long before they’re all in but the demons Abby has spent years hiding from threaten to end them before they get a chance to truly begin.

I’ve been looking forward to more Chicago Blaze since reading Anton earlier this year and Luca did not disappoint! You want a sexy hockey player to swoon over? Look no more. He was the real deal and such a great guy, seeing his dedication to raising his nieces and nephew will totally melt your heart. The kids were adorable and added many sweet moments to this story. When it came to him and Abby, he was the perfect blend of a gentleman and sexy alpha. Abby was a tough cookie who, underneath it all, was extremely vulnerable and damaged. When her past is revealed, my heart broke. I enjoyed watching her heal, though, as her relationship with Luca and the kids forced her to face her devastating past. It was a heart-wrenching journey but I liked that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary drama, the situation was enough to add angst to the story. I really enjoyed these two together and seeing all of them rise from their painful pasts to become their own version of family was really wonderful. If you’re a fan of sports romance or emotional stories that’ll make you swoon and give you all the feels, then I think you’ll really enjoy this book!

After all the times I told myself I don’t have time for a relationship, this thing with Abby snuck up and took me by surprise.

I enjoyed this book a lot, but also didn't quite gel with it and I'm not exactly sure why. Tho I'm going to try understanding through my review. I liked the characters enough that I'll give this author another try at least.

1. I'm not a big fan of instalust stories so maybe that's one thing that bothered me. These two people meet and immediately have a one night stand. I don't know why, but their sexy times never worked for me!

2. I absolutely adored both characters. The dude is the sweetest ever! He is the sole guardian for his two nieces and nephew after his brother and sister-in-law have died. And he's a really good dad figure! Interactions he has with the kids are absolutely phenomenal. However, he gets into a relationship with a woman and she never meets his kids until there's an emergency and she is putting sole charge of the kids! That was really weird. I cannot imagine allowing anyone to watch my children or my niblings when they don't have a relationship with that person! It would be one thing if they were a professional babysitter, but a girlfriend!? Doesn't seem right.

3. I adored the wealthy powerful female character. She's rich, she knows what she wants, and she takes what she needs! But, there is a storyline about her past of being a super nurturing homebody/homemaker! It's just a little odd. Like, somehow she had a complete personality transplant when she had a tragedy!?

4. The therapy rep was great for the guy and his niblings. They are mentally healthy and dealing with their tragedies. However, the heroine is not coping well. She needs therapy. A lot. She has a great interaction with one of the kids that inspires her to try something new, but I'm really hoping she'll go to therapy and get some help.

5. The relationship is very much "sex first". They have a good time together and both want to continue. It's not my favorite storyline, but I loved all the characters so much, I think I'll try more books from this author.

Safety deets
- No OW/OM. Both of them have slept around a LOT. But it sounds like they stop sleeping with anyone else after they meet.
- We get to see them getting engaged in the epilogue and thriving.
- Consent is good.

" Sometimes, the curve ballsife throws you end up becoming home runs. "

I liked Anton and though it was a fast read the story was complete. I wanted to know more about the other players. These books are engrossing and entertaining I will say. Luca is legal guardian to his nieces and nephew, they experienced a huge loss they were trying to go on. Luca had his hands full all the time so he took a chance when he met Abby. Abby and Luca got hot and heavy right away they got a no strings arrangement since they both love in different areas. Abby refuses anything personal or any relationship so guarded and workaholic. It hinted she has a tough past and had reinvented herself.

Luca I liked a lot right away, great uncle and loves the kids. Abby I couldn't connect with since she doesn't say anything beyond the surface and was clearly not happy knowing Luca takes care of kids. I get her secrecy but it's not fair to Luca who is good guy and caring. Abby maybe be independent and successful but her anxiety and controlling ways make it hard for people to get close. I admit what she went through was horrible and it can change you. I'm glad Luca is determined to get through to her.

Luca is more serious since he has the kids and i like that. His priorities changed but he can handle it. I like that Abby let her vulnerable side show even to the kids and that's what bonded them. But when things get one of the kids gets sick, it could make her could go back to her old ways. Ah the non communication bit again, Abby's old ways. I'm glad Luca has the sense to talk and get things better.

All in all it was a good story, it just ended a bit fast and wrapped up neatly with that last minute added conflict. Should have been a bit longer to deal with the issues that surround Abby. It was a fast and fairly easily read but to note there are sad parts with death and sickness. But all ends well and happily. I'm curious about Vic's book next his story seems interesting.

This was a sweet story. Luca is a pro hockey player tasked with the care of his three nieces and nephews. Abby is a power career woman who lost her family. The two start a no strings fling which eventually leads to more.

I liked Luca. He was an all round great guy. I felt that he handled raising three kids surprisingly well. I think realistically though, he would have had to have a live in nanny. I couldn’t quite make the logistics work otherwise. And he was obviously rich enough.

I liked Abby. She’s pretty broken but has a cool, kickass attitude about it all which I admired.

Why only three stars?
Well it was a bit heart-wrenching for me. I don’t like to be wrung out. It was quite serious most of the time. I clung to the small bits of team smack talk as they seemed so bright and carefree compared to the rest.

And this story focused quite a lot on family and kids. I’m not sure I need to know whose packed lunch is made and whose washing has been folded. I get enough of that everyday and it’s not romantic.

This book was an absolute total emotional roller coaster! From the highest high of an immediate connection, to the lowest lows of sharing a past full of devastating hurts, this book had me smiling one minute, and crying my eyes out the next.

Abby is a strong woman, one who has built her own business from the ground up, but there is also a vulnerability to her, which she hides behind her work. She has a past that she shares with no one, and she holds herself apart from everyone. She is alone, and has no intentions of changing that.

Luca's life is crazy busy, and he has little time to add anything to it. But a chance meeting on a night out with the guys leads him to an amazing woman. A single night together, that's all that she wants, all that she can give. But he still hopes to hear from her again.

This book was one that will stick with me. The emotional upheaval experienced by the characters was heart wrenching, and left me in tears at times, but their story was one of harsh experiences and renewal, acceptance and moving past the hardships. This was an amazing read, one that I'd recommend to anyone!

Luca and Abby were in agreement about everything - one night stands were all they had time for, no relationships, no "forever". Their careers were their lives. Of course, Luca had a little more. He had his nieces and nephew now and "fatherhood" did not have room for anything else as well. His one night stand with Abby was addictive. One was not enough. Even Abby had to admit, her time with Luca was the best and exactly what she needed, no strings attached. Of course, life has a sense of humor and sometimes what we think we need and what we are dealt are polar opposites. Emotion also has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. A beautiful story of love, life and loss. Luca is filled with emotion and so I suggest you keep a box of tissues handy.
