Austrian video artist Michaela Grill, together with Canadian filmmaker Karl Lemieux and British turntablist Philip Jeck, present a unique and improvised audio-visual performance in which image and sound, analogue and digital elements are synergistically interwoven. Support comes from the new duo of Bulgarian violinist, Bilana Voutchkova and Japanese artist, Rie Nakajima.

Philip Jeck studied visual arts at Dartington College of Arts in the 1970’s and has been creating sound with record-players since the early 80’s. He has worked with many dance and theatre companies and played with muscians/composers such as Jah Wobble, Steve Lacy, Gavin Bryars, Jaki Liebezeit, David Sylvian, Sidsel Endresen and Bernhard Lang.
He has released 11 solo albums, the most recent “Cardinal”, a double vinyl release on Touch. “Suite”, another vinyl-only release, won a Distinction at The Prix Ars Electronica, and a cassette release on The Tapeworm, “Spool”, playing only bass guitar. His CD “Sand” (2008) was 2nd in The Wire’s top 50 of the year. His largest work made with Lol Sargent, “Vinyl Requiem” was for 180 record-players, 9 slide-projectors and 2 16mm movie-projectors. It received a Time Out Performance Award. Vinyl Coda I-III, a commission from Bavarian Radio in 1999 won the Karl Sczuka Foderpreis for Radio Art.
Michaela Grill (Austria) studied in Vienna, Glasgow and London. Various film/video works, installations and live visuals, performances in Austria and abroad. Living and working in Montréal.
Karl Lemieux is a co-founder of Double Negative, a film collective based in Montréal focused on the production and screening of experimental film and has worked on several music and performance- based live projections (eg Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hiss Tracts)
Rie Nakajima is a a sculptor living in London. She has been working on creating installations and performances by responding to physical characters of spaces using combination of motorised devices and found objects. Fusing sculpture and sound, her artistic practice is open to chance and the influence of others. She has exhibited and performed worldwide. She has collaborated with Ikon Gallery(Birmingham), Museo Vostell Malpartida (Cáceres), Tate Modern (London), Serralves Museum (Porto), ShugoArts (Tokyo), Hara Museum (Tokyo) and many others. Her frequent collaborators includes David Cunningham, Keiko Yamamoto, Pierre Berthet, David Toop, Haruko Nakajima and Akira Sakata.

Biliana Voutchkova is a dynamic and thoroughly engaged interdisciplinary artist, violinist, composer, improviser and curator with truly personal, unconventional artistic language. Through the prism of listening, her early training in classical music and the many years of development as contemporary artist-performer, she explores states of spontaneity and intuitive resonance embodied in her multifaceted activities. Her constant creative research and work spans the widest possible range of sound, vision, movement and includes long durational / multidisciplinary performances, concerts, audiovisual works, compositions and installations with focus on the sound space.
