OTO PROJECT SPACE: Oscillate publication launch

No Longer Available

Oscillate is a publication presenting texts from four of the world’s leading musicians: Evan Parker, Matthew Herbert, Kaffe Matthews, and Mira Calix. This launch event, supported by the Sonic Art Research Unit, will include readings from the publication and a live appearance from Postcards from the Volcano.

Oscillate emerged from a series of public artist talks of the same name at Turner Contemporary in Margate, the writings in the publication serve as fascinating literary counterpoints to the artists’ practices, giving valuable insight into the creative process and conceptual context for their work. Collectively, the diverse writings in Oscillate highlight the role that experimental art plays in both reflecting and influencing the cultural arena in which the work is made and experienced. As such, the project represents a important addition to writings in the field of contemporary music and sound.

Oscillate is a published by Compost and Height and edited by Robert Stillman, in collaboration with the School of Music and Performing Arts at Canterbury Christ Church University.

POSTCARDS FROM THE VOLCANO
Born in 2015 out of a love for the outdoors and a curiosity to explore pathways well-trodden and unexplored, Postcards from the Volcano began life as a series of sporadic live radio shows focusing on the poetics of landscape, and nature and space in relation to the (non)human, interweaving conversation and on location pre-records with spoken word pieces, sonic experiments, sound collage, and many other forms of music.

In its live state, Postcards from the Volcano performs in venues conventional and otherwise, and has been known to organise vibrations at the 100 Years Gallery, Anatum’s Abode, Charlton Gallery, Field Studies (London Metropolitan University), Hand of Stab’s ‘Midsummer Gathering’, Ingrid Plum’s ‘Bechdel’, Lisa Busby’s ‘Collecting//Objects//Sounding’ (Goldsmiths), Machines Room, Martin Smith’s ‘The Road to Mount Helicon’, the Vinyl Deptford, Wellcome Trust, and White Heart Gallery.
