The University’s Nursing Associate Programme has been shortlisted for a Student Nursing Times Award.

It is the second year in succession the higher apprenticeship has been shortlisted for the Nursing Associate Training Programme Provider of the Year (pre-registration) award, after winning the same category at last year’s awards.

The Nursing Associate Programme helps and supports students to meet the education and training needs of care support workers leading to employment as a nursing associate and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Mark Wheatley, Course Leader, Trainee Nursing Associate Programme in the University’s School of Health & Life Sciences said: “I’m delighted that the nursing associate programme has been shortlisted again for this award after its win last year in the same category.

Mark Wheatley, Course Leader of Trainee Nursing Associate Programme

“It’s a reflection of the hard work of the staff, the trainee nursing associates and all the partners organisations who contribute to its success.

“It has been a challenging 18 months and the programme had to be adapted due to all the restrictions in place because of the pandemic.

“I am so thankful to all the staff and partner organisations who worked incredibly hard to keep the programme going and the trainee nursing associates who all continued to work above and beyond in their clinical areas as well as study the programme.

“This shows the determination of all the trainees to do their very best and I am very proud of them for their achievement in not only studying so hard but caring for patients and relatives in such difficult circumstances.”

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London in November.
