ABSTRACT

Initiation is the first of six phases. It is about ensuring a good project start and facilitating a positive and predictable collaboration between the client and the designer. It involves clarifying which task is to be solved and defining clear frameworks and conditions. Meetings or workshops help start the dialogue, discuss the project, and develop a basis for quotation and contract. For the designer, this means making a good sales pitch and asserting oneself as a professional and competent partner. For the client, it involves choosing a designer who has all the necessary qualifications and the right mindset. Initiating a project is always about setting up a competent team to complete the given task. Phase 1 includes chapters on initial preparations, project brief, initial meeting, initial workshop, project description, progress schedule, price quotation, assignment contract and team collaboration.
