ABSTRACT

Production is the fifth of six phases, and it is about realising and implementing the solution developed through the previous phases. Production involves making one or more products by mechanical, manual or digital means. It can be manufacturing a product, building an exhibition stand, printing a brochure, or programming an app. Production is something the designer often leaves to subcontractors, but production planning, follow-up and quality assurance is the designer's responsibility. This includes, among other things, choice of production technique, publishing solutions, and technology, choice of paper or other material, implementation and completion of design solution and output, as well as the conscious colour management and file format selection. Phase 3 includes chapters on implementation, prototyping, material selection, paper and cartonboard, colour management, production for digital media, production for printed media and quality assurance.
