Dear Colleague

Equality Day Activities – Monday 23rd April 2018

This year’s Equality Day at Annual Conference will take place on Monday 23rd April and will acknowledge women’s rights and the 100 year anniversary since women were first given the right to vote.

Equality Day T-shirts will be available to collect from the Equality stand on Sunday 22nd April.

The Equality Fringe ‘Year of the Woman’ will take place at lunchtime on Monday 23rd April at the rear of the Tregonwell Hall and Jane Connor from Lesbian Gay Support the Miners (LGSM) will be a guest speaker. Light refreshments will be available and we have catered for halal, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free diets.

The Equality department is launching a booklet called ‘A Closer Look: Meet the RAC’ which will be available on the stand. There will also be an exhibition entitled – Women of the World on display.

In keeping with the ‘Year of the Woman’ theme, we would like to invite volunteers to join us for a photo shoot on the steps of the BIC on Monday 23rd April at 5pm. The photo shoot will be an opportunity for CWU delegates to express solidarity with Ahem Tamimi – a 17 year old female Palestinian activist who was recently jailed by Israeli authorities for standing up to Israeli aggression.

At the photo shoot delegates will be asked to hold up a 40 piece mosaic which reads #freeAhemTamimi.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the working party for their hard work in helping facilitate Equality Day 2018.

Any enquiries on the content of this LTB should be addressed to dnoel@cwu.org in the Equal Opportunities Department.

Yours sincerely
