WalkAbout Program!

What is WalkAbout?

WalkAbout is a PTSA program providing positive adult presence on campus during peak times, primarily before school and during lunches, to help discourage inappropriate behavior, allowing students to feel safe while giving you a great volunteer opportunity impacting your child’s environment and providing a connection to middle school.

WalkAbout volunteers simply walk campus areas at designated times (lunch, before and after school). It’s a longstanding program at IMS with a history of school administration and volunteer support. WalkAbout was started in 2001 and received a Washington State PTSA that same year.

WalkAbout needs many volunteers to keep our program vibrant and effective, and we NEED you!

How do I get involved?

Greetings PTSA Volunteers,

IMS is very excited to announce our WalkAbout program is live again! Please join us by signing up for shifts covering first and second lunch.  

This is a fun opportunity to see the kids and provide support if needed. A friendly “Hello” goes a long way.

To volunteer with WalkAbout there are 3 important steps to take:

1. Be sure to have completed the  ISD volunteer application. This application must be completed each school year.
2. Complete the required WalkAbout online training session and sign the attestation form on the second to last slide. IMS Walkabout Training 21-22.pptx
3. Sign up for a WalkAbout volunteer shift for the 23-24 school year via Sign Up Genius

Mission Statement/Purpose:  To provide a positive and safe learning environment for students by having trained parent volunteers at school during high traffic times (before/after school and lunchtimes) moving through the campus in pairs to discourage inappropriate behaviors and act as a positive adult presence.

The WalkAbout program coincides with the Issaquah School District "Safe and Positive Environment" policy.
