JHNR welcomes new editor and introduces new publication workflow
Dear colleagues,
We are writing with a few important updates concerning the Journal of Historical Network Research.
Dr Ingeborg van Vugt joins JHNR as editor for Early Modern History
We are excited to announce that Dr Ingeborg van Vugt has joined us as editor for Early Modern History.
Ingeborg obtained her PhD in modern and contemporary history in a joint degree programme between the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and the University of Amsterdam in 2019. In her dissertation, she used the sociological theory of structural balance to model crucial moments of change in early modern epistolary networks and to study their tendency towards stability. During her PhD, she contributed to several digital humanities initiatives, including the Six Degrees of Francis Bacon project at the Carnegie Mellon University and the research summit “Early Modern Digital Agendas: Network Analysis” at the Folger Shakespeare Library. From 2019 to 2022 she was a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC project SKILLNET at Utrecht University, where she explored the ideal of sharing knowledge in the early modern Republic of Letters using network analysis. She will now continue her career as a data engineer at the Humanities Cluster of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), where she will manage humanities data collections and help researchers in the humanities and social sciences to address new research questions using innovative technical methods.
Ingeborg has contributed to JHNR already since its inception in 2017 as an author and reviewer and we are very much looking forward to continuing our long-standing cooperation in this new form.
Shift to cumulative publication model
Regarding our publication model, we will shift from a volume-based model to a cumulative approach, i.e. will publish individual articles as they become ready for publication. We believe that this will be an important step towards increasing the speed of publication as well as making our editorial workflows more efficient. An exception remains for thematic special issues which we will continue to publish together.
We continue to offer authors free of charge services for copy-editing and layouting based on the JHNR template.

A note on tech problems
Over the past months we have experienced technical problems with our software Open Journal Systems. While some of these issues could be resolved in the meantime, we continue to work on solutions for the remaining ones. For the time being, a problem with Open Journal System, our management software causes problems for Firefox users. This error, unfortunately, is beyond the control of our IT team. We would like to thank our authors and reviewers for their patience along the way.
