'Tis the season... for more great readings!

In the same comic vein as OREGON TRAIL, writer A.J. Allegra skewers another beloved classic as he puts an irreverent spin on Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL. In this comedic retelling, Ebenezer Scrooge: miser, bigot, misogynist, and overall terrible human being learns the true meaning of Christian charity and, most importantly, what a tremendous asshole everyone really thinks he is.

Admission is FREE! Just make sure to bring cash for the bar.
(It wouldn't be ROUGH DRAUGHTS without it!)

Reveillon Dinners
The word "reveillon" means "awakening" in French, New Orleans' original language. The Creoles, some of the city's earliest inhabitants, celebrated the start of Christmas in the early 1800s, with a big family meal when they returned home from midnight mass.
Two o'clock in the morning may be an odd time to start a feast consisting of chicken and oyster gumbo, game pies, soups, souffles, lavish desserts, brandy and coffee, but this is how it was done back then. It was a tradition the Creoles inherited from their European cousins as a way of breaking the daylong religious fast leading up to Christmas Eve.
By the 1940s, the Reveillon tradition, which had been slowly fading out over succeeding generations, all but disappeared. However, it was revived in the 1990s - with modifications reflecting the times - and has been increasing in popularity ever since.
Among those modifications, the emphasis on the Reveillon tradition shifted from family dinners at home to the tables of the city's top-tier restaurants. Also, the meals are offered at more conventional dining times during the day, instead of in the wee hours of the morning.
Today dozens of New Orleans restaurants offer Reveillon Dinners with menus inspired by the Creole families who began the tradition. Participating restaurants have added their own twists to their menus, featuring their house specialties and examples of their culinary creativity.

Bob Carr
...is now on sale at local bookstores.
Attached is information about this fun and exciting new book that follows Bob's journey from silver spoon to tin cup during the Great Depression. Though many books have been written about this miserable period in American history, few are as enchanting and amusing as this.   Bob's book is filled with adventure and humor as can only be expressed by a young boy who is filled with fear and wonder during the family's downturn into homelessness.

Dr. Carol Gelderman says, "Your latest is wonderful. I loved it, and it's a real page turner. You really can write Bob. Do another book."

Betsy Fabry says, "I find your book fascinating. I especially like the descriptions around your mother."

Linda Mintz says, "Couldn't put it down. I knew you could ad-lib but, wow, you can write!"

The New Orleans Ballet Theatre Presents The Nutcracker 2017
At the Orpheum Theater

This December 22nd  New Orleans Ballet Theatre (NOBT) will present performances of the classic Christmas tale, The Nutcracker. This year will mark the third year the company will collaborate with both the historic Orpheum Theater downtown and a local artist for the poster artwork. This year's original artwork is commissioned from Michael Pajón, represented by Jonathon Ferrara Gallery.

With its biggest cast to date, over 150 local children and professional dancers will be sharing the stage this December. Returning NOBT dancers and former principals with Atlanta Ballet, Rachel Van Buskirk and Christian Clark will be playing the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. Both dancers are also founding members of Terminus Ballet Theatre in Atlanta, and Rachel Van Buskirk has been featured on the cover of Dance Magazine as a top "25 to Watch" dancer. One of NOBT's newest dancers, Felicia McPhee, formerly with and Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet, will premiere as the Dew Drop Fairy.

Consistent with NOBT's belief that quality ballet should be accessible to all regardless of background, New Orleans Ballet Theatre is also expending it's outreach program in donating over 500 tickets to local New Orleans schools and organizations where at least 75% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
