We want to hear your views and experiences with food waste to help shape how we can reduce, and recycle more, food waste in Buckinghamshire.

Buckinghamshire homes produce at least 30,000 tonnes of food waste every year, enough to fill 250,000 wheelie bins. A staggering two thirds of that food waste was edible.

With so much food waste produced, we want to understand:

  • how it’s produced, and
  • how we can help local people reduce food waste and recycle more of what is produced.

Wasting food has big impacts, it:

  • costs householders, the average family of four could save £60 per month
  • costs Buckinghamshire Council, we spend hundreds of thousands of pounds each year disposing of food waste that could have been eaten
  • has a negative impact on the planet. In fact, if food waste were a country, it would be the third biggest carbon emitter in the world, after USA and China!

What can we do to reduce food waste?

With such big impacts and the opportunities to do more locally, we want your views on food waste to help us understand how, why and what is wasted.

Taking part in this short survey will help us deliver campaigns to local people and look at our own services to really make a difference and combat food waste.
