Individually, genetic disorders are rare but together they affect 1 in 25 children. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under.
Unlike common diseases, the rarity of genetic disorders poses special problems for the people affected. These include:
Difficulty in obtaining accurate diagnosis
Lack of experience of clinicians in treatment
Good information is harder to find, for professionals and families
Research is less likely to occur than for common diseases
Developing medicines may not be economic for companies
Treatments are often very expensive
Jeans for Genes was created by the CGD Society, a registered UK charity. It is an appeal dedicated to raising funds that will help people affected by genetic disorders.

Improve diagnosis of genetic conditions
Boost research by world leaders in the field to develop cures and new treatments
