Area Bands

Area Bands are beginner orchestral groups open to young people in primary city schools receiving music education by Nottingham Music Hub. These bands are open to all Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who have some experience of learning an instrument (it doesn't matter if it has been less than a year of learning). Activities will be designed to make sure that all young people can take part and make music together!

Enrolment Forms

Enrolment forms for Live Area Bands 2022-23 are now open. Please make sure you have filled out this form if your child is taking part in Area Bands.

What do Area Bands include?

Area Band sessions include a combination of full rehearsals, small group activities, performances, singing, movement and improvisation. Instruments include violin, viola, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and more!

Why Should Your Child Join Area Bands?

Children will learn to play their instrument better, perform at exciting concerts throughout the year and make new friends!

Please note that Area Bands are run in collaboration with Nottingham City Schools. If you would like your child to be part of this fantastic programme, please speak to your school.

My experience was TERRIFIC, the minute we played, I felt like I was in a magical world, yes that’s how amazing was! The hall itself was huge! Surprisingly huge! There were so many instruments that were part of it too, it really was a dream-come-true, to be in Area Band!

Old Basford pupil about their experience at an Area Band concert

For the children who go on to join the Area Band, the experience of playing in and performing with an orchestra is incredible. It is almost impossible to exaggerate how enriching and empowering this is.
