financial support
Choosing to become a foster carer or a fostering family is a big decision to make. Foster Wales Swansea places the support we provide our foster carers as one of our main priorities. Why? Because they deserve all the support they need or want so they can give their very best to the children in their care. We provide one-to-one and 24/7 support. We provide support groups, coffee mornings, events, and activities for children. Importantly, we always communicate and consult with our foster carers.
learning and developement
Being a foster carer with us means that you will receive competitive fees and allowances which are higher than those set by Welsh Government. We also give our carers additional payments for holidays, Christmas, and birthdays as we recognise these can be costly. We also pay our foster carers a retainer payment should they have a period of time where no child is placed with them (not that this is very likely). The amount you receive as a foster carer will be based on a number of factors such as the type of fostering you offer, how many children or young people you care for, along with their specific needs.

You’ll have access to all the tools and training you will need to ensure you can meet the needs of each child in your care. From core training to specialist training courses, we offer the chance for our carers to continuously learn and develop. Our approach to learning and development is flexible. Not everything is learnt through training courses which is why we acknowledge that foster carers can learn and develop through other methods, such as: podcasts, books, videos, documentaries, webinars, articles and much more.
