Together4Children, a partnership between four local authorities is now has 4 Mockingbird constellation, an innovative family-based model of foster care

The partnership are the first to launch The Fostering Network’s Mockingbird Programme as a joint project across four council fostering services.

Children and young people in care across Shropshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Telford & Wrekin are enjoying the significant benefits of this family-based model of care. An award-winning model of foster care that builds a constellation of fostering households to replicate the structure of an extended family with the support and relationships that provides.

A hub carer sits at the heart of the constellation offering friendship, support and guidance to foster carers and children. Children look forward to sleepovers with their hub carer. The hub carer will host celebrations and arrange fun outings. They are also a source of advice and guidance, in the way any grandparent figure might in a traditional extended family.

Thanks to the community of support Mockingbird provides, children enjoy the security of a stable home with their foster families. By supporting families in this way, the programme helps to avoid the breakdown of relationships.  This means that more children can grow up with the constancy they deserve.

The Mockingbird programme is beneficial to foster parents, children and young people alike.  The model supports foster carers to provide the best possible care to their young people.  It is also a cost-effective, sustainable model of foster care providing more capacity to care for children than other existing fostering models.
