Annual Yuba River Cleanup

Origins of the Annual Yuba River Cleanup

Keeping the Yuba clean since 1997

Inspired by California Coastal Cleanup Day, SYRCL began the annual Yuba River Cleanup with the help of our regional cohort, The Great Sierra River Cleanup.

What is the California Coastal Cleanup Day?

Over time, the annual Yuba River Cleanup has become a beloved tradition that unites the community in a shared goal. Year after year, enthusiastic volunteers roll up their sleeves, don their gloves, and embark on a mission to rid the river of the trash and debris that has accumulated throughout the Yuba River watershed each year.

Since its inception, the annual Yuba River Cleanup has removed more than 135 tons of garbage and recycling from the river.

The annual Yuba River Cleanup is more than just a one-day event. It serves as a vital component of SYRCL’s broader efforts to promote river safety and educate the public on the importance of protecting and preserving the watershed.

By engaging in this hands-on cleanup effort, participants not only remove harmful debris but also learn about proper river etiquette and responsible recreation. Yuba River Cleanup sponsors also support the continued work of SYRCL’s River Ambassador Program.
