File for terminal print out information

Asked by Ciara Byers

Hi,

I'm having an issue with my own script, it runs Madgraph and then pipes the output (e.g. the values of changed parameters, the cross section + error) to a file that I can then use to create plots of the cross section against the parameters easily.

The pipes have stopped working, I am trying to fix this but I thought there may be a similar file already produced by Madgraph somewhere and that it would be much easier to make use of that if there is.

Is there a file like this? That I could just open with my script and read the values out from?

Best wishes,
Ciara

Hi,

You should look at the following two FAQ:
(how to do a parameter scan)
https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+faq/2735

If you do not do a parameter scan (i.e. also change the run_card) then you should check this link:
https://answers.launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/+faq/2186

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for getting back to me. I think there is some confusion, I have seen both pages you linked before but my issue is not with creating a parameter scan script.

When you run Madgraph and it prints the cross section and error to the terminal after it completes a run how is that stored? Is there some text file each time that I would be able to read the values out from?

Best wishes,
Ciara

No confusion here.
In the case of the benchmard scan (first link), a file containing all the cross-sectin and other information is created automatically (as described in the link).

If you need more general scan/method, the second link also explains how to access such information to put those in a file.

Cheers,

Olivier
