What do I like most about the #FemtecAward? It shines a light on individuals and initiatives that might not be commonly known, but set an example and act as role models in the categories of Leadership, Innovation, and Social Impact. Absolutely honoured to receive the national award for the "International Achievements of Young Lithuanian Scientific Talents" hosted by Gitanas Nausėda, President of Lithuania, and Global Lithuanian Leaders for our research and work with Samphire Neuroscience (and thank you to Algirdas Stonys for the heartwarming speech). Here are 3 reasons why I see this award as a responsibility to keep working even harder in 2024: 1. This award shows that women's health *can be* an area of serious scientific research, discoveries, and achievement; which wasn't a given in neuroscience when I started my studies. I hope that this inspires more young scientists, researchers and clinicians to pursue careers that aim to understand women's biological, social, financial and cognitive realities better, and build solutions to make billions of lives better. 2. I know that the visibility of our work makes women feel heard, for once. After receiving the award, I was approached by many women sharing their stories, including those of struggle & of resilience, probably for the first time in front of a male audience. We are still far from gender & other forms of social equality. But if we can recognise that women deserve better on a main stage, in front of some of the most important people, from politics to business to journalism nationally, we can probably make the lived reality of women and girls in the future safer, healthier, and more prosperous. 3. No scientific or business breakthrough is even remotely possible without the people who bring light to their every day jobs and choose to go the extra mile. I am beyond grateful for my team at Samphire Neuroscience, who go the extra mile every day, as well as to our investors, who believe in the extra mile Samphire is taking to advance the standard of care for women, globally. And beyond all, I'm grateful to have been born in an independent Lithuania and inspired to bring more opportunities, visibility and transforming technologies to the country whose character raised me. #awards2023 #lithuania #neurotechnology #womenshealth
