Ok.. I’m going to start off by being extremely honest and say that after reading the first chapter, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book. BUT I am sooooo glad I kept reading because boy was I wrong!!!
This book had me hook line and sinker the minute Tristan met Lana. He is one spunky cowboy and Lana is that shy book loving girl.
This was a really enjoyable read with a little teen drama and a cliffhanger ending! What is going to happen with them? Will then end up working things out?
I have to admit and say that I couldn’t help but laugh at “do you want to learn?” And “do you want me to teach you?” (You will know what I mean when you read that part). It was completely unexpected and I really had no idea that the story was going to turn in that direction.
But hey, getting to see a little of Tristan’s dirty side! Give me mooooore.
Looking forward to reading the next book and seeing what happens next!

Phenomenal First Love Romance, Part 1
Reviewed in the United States on 25 April 2020Verified Purchase
It's important to make it clear that this book is part one of Lana and Tristan's story and it ends in a cliffhanger. I used to be adamantly opposed to cliffies, and having no warning about them ahead of time really annoyed me. If I know up front, I can prepare myself as I start the book. I would have missed out on some really exceptional writing, had I passed up several duets, which would have been my loss. Plus, we always have the option of waiting until the story is complete to start reading it.
This is my first book by this writer and I went into it completely blind. When I realized the main characters were high school age, my first impulse was to run in the opposite direction, because I never, ever read teens in the new adult genre. But I had made a commitment to read it, so I dove in, and in no time at all the story captivated me and the characters stole my heart.
I avoid teenage characters for several reasons, the biggest being their immaturity and the drama over every little thing. For me, there's nothing worse than selfish immaturity and manufactured angst. So any writer who can win me over by making me enjoy something I usually refuse to read makes me appreciate her skill and talent that much more.
At the close of her junior year, Lana Robinson's parents insist she go with them on a two-week vacation at the Black Stallion Ranch. Lana is sure it will be horrible, having to leave her friends and being stuck in a place with sketchy cell phone service, until she meets Tristan Ellis. It’s his last summer of helping his parents on the ranch before he leaves for college and a promising football career in the fall, and he and Lana hit it off almost from the beginning.
This book has the expected elements associated with teenagers, but very little contrived angst, which I appreciated. It also doesn’t get bogged down with excessive internal dialogue, and the characters are refreshingly mature. If you like YA, you’ll love this story. These characters will easily work their way into your heart, so don’t miss out on Tristan and Lana's story.

A summer romance as steamy as the season's heat.

A summer romance as steamy as the season's heat. Watching these characters experience young love is like a walk down memory lane in a way. We can all remember the excitement of first love, and this novel captures that so well. A lot of writers do not write teens like teens. Yes, the characters are teenagers, legal adults, but teenagers. It is so refreshing to read something that actually shows them acting like teens. You find yourself rooting for them. You don't want this to be a Baby and Johnny, Dirty Dancing, one and done. You to see them pull it off, and I for one can't wait to read the second book.
The romance is exactly what I have come to expect from this author. It's sexy as hell, but with these two there is also that feeling of discovery. It's exactly what it should be. There is also a great little easter egg reference to one of the author's previous works. Seeing that had me laughing and cheering.
