Wanderlust #1

Quietly Making Noise

Rate this book
Dreams tug, tease, and sometimes retreat into a subtle promise of a different tomorrow. A tomorrow Elio Delacruz never expected. Not after a lifetime of chasing a single goal.

Alongside his closest friends, Elio lives and loves his passion—his art. His existence depends on the whimsical, on the intangible, on the constant motion of a traveling busker.

When a tumultuous shadow from his past forces him to return to the suffocating island of Key West, his every instinct tells him to run. To flee from the scars of his youth.

And then he meets Vianella Manco. She’s only supposed to be a temporary distraction until he can break free of the island. His heart is never supposed to beat for her. And she’s never supposed to wish for anything beyond the easy moments they steal from one another.

But, sometimes, purposes change and the truths you believed turn out to be nothing more than pretty lies.

First off, I want to say that no matter what I say in this review it will not do this story any justice. Yessi's words are breathtakingly beautiful. Every little minute detail will resonate in your mind because she captivates the essence of a free spirit perfectly.

I consider myself to be somewhat of a free spirit and I found that once upon a time I had the same dreams Elio had but because of the way my life went my dreams have taken a different path.  The way he describes his life and how his town holds him back was something I am all to familiar with. I come from a small town that never let's you leave and if you do you always come back, eventually.

I cannot express enough how this story made me feel. It made me feel warm and fuzzy. Elio and the way he lives. The things he did for people just made me want to be a better person. There is only one other character in a book that ever made me feel this way and her name is Kate Sedgwick. If you caught my reference you will want to read this one. Elio has replaced my current book boyfriend. He is smart, sexy, mysterious, funny and his passion just burns ever so brightly. His character grows throughout the whole story. He reaches some lows but because of his friends and family he pulls out of it. He along with his friends Dylan and Annie are buskers. They travel around the US together performing little shows for money. They never stay in one place very long. All three of them are escaping their pasts of course and chasing their dreams.

Vee, is the object of Elio's affection. It has been awhile since I enjoyed a female character so much. So often you get the indecisive female lead where she doesn't know what she wants. Well, Vee starts out in this nature but doesn't take her very long to realize that Elio is her bright and shining star that will bring her out of her tragic past. The chemistry these two share is contagious. It's mesmerizing and beautiful. Passionate and sincere. Everyone strives for this connection in their life and if you have found it well you are one of the lucky ones. Not everyone is that lucky.

There are so many miracles in this book. So many complexities. So many beautiful relationships. All of these people in Elio's life are just the kindest people you will ever read about. I envy a lot of these life long bonds. These relationships that no matter how rocky they fix themselves at the end of the day.

Somewhere in the book Elio is rocked with a secret from his past. I cried. I was blindsided, to be honest, but it only added to the beauty of the story. It also makes you remember that sometimes family isn't blood but sometimes family is the friends that have been with you or carried you and your burdens throughout your life.

I hope that there is a sequel. I want more of Owen and Devin's story. Everyone else seems to have settled down but Owen. He is such a beautiful human being he deserves his "game changer" too. I want more of his past and to see how the other characters lifted him up and shaped him into the amazing man and father he became. And I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of my man Elio! *swoon*

There is no doubt in my mind this book will be a favorite of mine in the years to come. I know I'm going to recommend it and force it down all my friends' throats!

wow!

such a beautiful read! Pure poetry.

This definitely is not your average love story. It's as much a story of Elio and his lust for life than anything else.

Yessi Smith will transport you right into the pages of this book. it's impossible not get caught up in the beauty of it.

if you've read any of Yessi's previous books you will know that she doesn't write your standard 'Boys meets girl = HEA' kinda stuff. She writes book that make you stop and think. books that make you lose your mind at times because of the twists and turns.

this one is no different. This book felt hugely personal, I think there is a large part of Elio that IS Yessi. and that just gives amazing depth to the story. makes the feels all the more genuine.

Title: Quietly Making Noise
Author: Yessi Smith
Series: Wanderlust #1
Genre: new adult, contemporary romance
Themes: return to hometown
Heat: 3/5
Rating: 4/5

Yessi Smith's writing style is poetic, something which clearly comes from the heart rather than the head. There were so many quotations I had to highlight on my Kindle here, things I wanted to re-read again and again because they just spoke to me.

One of the strengths of Smith's work is that she manages to perfectly balance the romance and the Bildungsroman, never giving one too much focus over the other, and therefore never detracting from the actual depth of the stories she weaves. Quietly Making Noise is no different, and, the second of Smith's books I've read, has propelled her to my auto-purchase author list.

The characters, their relationships and their flaws were all exceptionally well-crafted, including the large supporting characters which, presumably, will have their own instalments in the Wanderlust series. This was a cast of people to immediately care about, people with meaning rather than being included for the sake of it. I particularly loved Annie, her (crazy) perceptiveness, and her (crazy) monologues, which hit home not only for the characters but also for the readers.

Although the romance tropes may have been included, Smith still manages to forge a unique take due to the setting and the characters' histories. This was a book which gripped my heart, made me feel, and made me fall in love. Highly recommended, and I can't wait for the sequel.

Originally written on Pari's Books!

I received an e-copy from Netgalley for reviewing the book.

Where do I begin with this book?

This is the first book that I’ve read by Yessi Smith, and I am craving for more! I’ve loved a lot of things about this book, and they outweigh the things that I didn’t like. I will start with the things that I didn’t like.

The plot was very…bland. Sure, there was one huge bit of Elio’s parents’ story, which was heartbreaking, and a very impressive element that brought a lot of feels into the story, but that was it. The rest of it was just Elio and Vianella having sex and talking sometimes, and fighting. If there were only a stronger plot, this book would’ve been 5-star read for me.

There were some amazing things in this book. Firstly, the writing.
The writing is melodious, just like the waves as it washes up on the beach. The writing was exciting, like Elio’s art. The writing was brilliant and poetic, like all the characters involved. The writing held us captive like Mallory did. The writing crawled inside our hearts and sat there, refusing to move.

It was marvellous.

Then, the characters. Elio and Vianella (first time I’ve ever heard such names; as unique as the characters) were quite different. I didn’t get their chemistry. I didn’t, still don’t understand how they were in perfect sync with each other in every aspect, despite knowing each other for less than two weeks. Maybe it’s got something to do with experience, but it wasn’t very convincing to me. Individually, they both had demons they were tackling alone, by themselves, and then they tackled their demons together. And even though I’m not quite sure that I understand where either of them is coming from, I can sympathize with Vianella, and I can try to understand the need for Elio to be away from Key West.

I loved Owen, especially, because I sort of have a soft spot for the differently abled people, and Owen (just like Ridge from Maybe Someday) is absolutely brilliant. I thought Devin was a cute little thing, and the friendship between Elio, Dylan, and Owen makes me jealous. I love how Elio’s mother has “adopted” the other two, and instead of having one son, she has 3 sons and a grand son. The relationship between Elio and his father was, well, perfect. It made me tear up a bit.
Thirdly, busking. The whole idea behind it is so brilliant! Kudos to Yessi Smith on that one!
There were little watercolour mandalas sprinkled lightly between the texts, and they were magnificent. The quotes, the drawing, the watercolours, it pretty much summed up our feeling when we read the quote.

I didn't just read tihs book, I experienced it.

Quietly Making Noise
by Yessi Smith

This book was a really bright surprise. It's amazing how many special authors we get to meet daily. This year I decided to read more new authors instead of just my already love ones and what a real joy has been. Continuing on my journey for new writers I found Yessi Smith. This book is one that's both inspiring and beautiful. It's one of those books that makes you remember to see beauty in the simplest of things and to always follow your dreams. Never let anyone else make you feel like what's important in your heart it's insignificant. This book is full of so many beautiful words that just takes your breath away. The characters names are even quite awesome in my book; Elio and Vianella. I fall in love with their names, their hearts and their energy.

What can I tell you about this couple?! They both are young and have seen and suffer struggles. They both have run away to escape hurt and trying to find their way. Elio needs to be in constant move not ever satisfied to be in just one place but circumstances in his life will bring him back home and he may finally decide to stay still for the first time in his life. Beautiful Vianella goes to Key West to escape but what she never expected was to open up and find the peace her heart was seeking.

I hope this will help you take some time and read Yessi's inspiring words.

"You just kind of came into my life and stole the ground from beneath me. It’s strange but reassuring. Now that I’m falling, I’ve somehow found myself.”

This book was a completely different read for me. Not your stereo typical love story but an almost enchanting poetic read. The writing so very unique in its own way it is hard for me to describe.

Elio escapes his hometown by discovering busking (street performing if you will). He along with one of his best friends travels all over performing for others. To read about his life and how he has found some "freedom if you will" from his past that was almost suffocating for him will intrigue you and the writing by Yessi Smith will make you imagine being there as he performs.

Elio eventually returns home to deal with his past, reuniting with some family as well as one of his best friends. He also meets Vianella who is his best friends cousin. There is instant attraction and Vee also has escaped her past as well bringing her to his home town. Together they both must come to terms with their past and decide how to move forward.

Elio has a strong bond with his two best friends as well as his mother and you truly see the dynamic of family in this book as a result. Vianella also fit perfectly into that family ideal. It was a heartwarming story but so very unique in how Yessi paints the story for you.

I see that this is a book 1 and I am looking forward to more from some of the characters in this book.

***** 5 Glorious Cranky Stars *****

It's good to have dreams and to follow them. Sometimes dreams fade and change. Once in a while they explode into attainable stars. To truly grasp your dreams and grow with them is what this story is all about.

Elio has felt loss at a young age. He starts acting out at a young age along with his best friends Owen and Dylan. When a family friend shows Elio a different path that allows him to find himself and help support his Mama he grasps it with both hands. Busking is now his life and dream and he's talented too.

Vee ran from tragedy to Key West to live with her cousin Owen and his son Devon. A former nurse turned paddle board tour operator and she's enjoying her life, minus the demon chickens.
Two paths intersect and the stars change for Elio and Vee. Can the wanderer and the steadfast come together?

Yessi Smith melted my heart with this story. It left me contemplating my place in this world and what I can do to change my circumstances. I love all of the characters and feel as if we're old friends. I truly believe this is a story that needed to be told and I plan on reading it again and again.

I started by saying this was totally unique and I meant that.

Half of the story feels like a romance, but the other half is educating me on the true struggle of the busker’s life. I wasn't disappointed.

While I loved Vianella, Elio took control of this story with his love of his job, street entertainment.

I literally get choked up writing this thinking about how hard that life must be, the empty days, the full ones, the ones where people take great advantage of your hard work and don't say thank you.

It left its mark.

I won’t pass a busker without stopping, and giving them my attention again.

Yessi is the true champion of the unseen. I mean that. She goes the distance to write truly beautiful tribute to these people who just want your smile, your applause, your time, and you won’t regret it, because blood sweat and tears goes into their art.

See, she made me realize it's an art! She taught me something.

Only a great artist can open a reader’s eyes.

I won't go into detail on the other parts of the book, cause I want you to read that for yourself and experience it.

Mrs. Smith, you touched my soul with this one.

Inspiring.

Ah, where do I even begin! I've read a few books by this author and QMN is by far my favorite. It was beautifully written. The storyline was so unique, every word incredibly meaningful. I adored the bond the author created between all the characters. Very tight knit, one big family. Elio's mom had me blushing and laughing out loud ( covers eyes) But truth be told it's Elio who I was smitten with. He was flirty, just had this way about him, that had me smiling throughout the book. I LOVED that Vianella challenged him. When he leaves her bedroom hahaha omg I DIED.
One click this people. It really is a must read.

Quietly Making Noise (Wanderlust #1) by Yessi Smith is a new adult contemporary love story. It contains some steamy sex and language that may not be appropriate for all readers.

Elio was a troubled boy after his father went to prison from killing a man in a robbery. He had 3 friends and they spent all of their time skipping school and smoking pot. A local, Key West police officer, took interest in Elio and introduced him to a street performer. The man taught him everything he knew about entertaining a crowd and Elio fell in love with busking. With his friend Dylan and a girl named Annie, they traveled all over entertaining crowds with juggling, jokes, singing and art. They didn't make a ton of money but it was enough to keep them happy.
When Elio's father is released from prison, his mother calls to let him know so he can come home. When he arrives there, his friend Owen has moved in a cousin named Vianella. She is a beautiful girl with violet eyes and she enchants Elio almost to the point of forgetting his father.

This was a very well written story. The plot was well developed with characters that had vastly unique personalities. With the addition of deaf characters Owen and Devin, its clear the title of the book refers to all of the characters in their own way.
I know this may sound silly but the cover of this book bothers me. There was no time where anyone was standing on one hand on a pedestal. Elio was doing yoga hand stands but that's all. It doesn't appear to represent anything that happened in the book.
Anyway, this story was very nice and heart warming. Its a great quick read that I found difficult to put down. The characters were so likeable that I wanted to know them in real life. I look forward to the next in this series.

Beautiful!

Loved the characters (all of them!!) And the growth that each of them go through. There are tough moments but beauty and light that break through each of them (MILD SPOILER: there are some sensitive topics discussed in this book so I would brace yourself if you weren't expecting those.. As many other reviewers noted, Yessi's writing is poetic and I appreciated some of the illustrated quotes included between pages. I found myself highlighting a lot on my Kindle, wanting to share those quotes with others. Now I want spin-offs that delve deeper into the supporting characters' storylines!

For anyone who has read Colleen Hoover and or Jessica Park, Yessi Smith's novel is right up your alley!

I chose this rating because the wiring was very beautiful and poetic, but at the same time unrealistic at certain moments...
When I read a story I feel like I'm one with the character and his or her thoughts, but with some of the writing, I feel like I just couldn't connect.
The issue with the main character's father could have been explained long ago, or at least at an age where he would have understood. I felt like it could have been cleared up before with more communication.
I'll definitely check out this author's other books, but this one was a bit lacking for me. I hate to write this since I saw the ratings were so high, so maybe it's just me.

Elio is seductive, gallant, connoisseur of his power of attraction, juggler, street artist, a free spirit that aims to achieve all his dreams and conquer the stars along with his friends Dylan and Annie, but has a great pain of the past that He tries in every way to escape seeing the hometown of Key West as a prison. Island where his mother lives and one of his best friends Owen.

Vianella, a gentle and sweet girl, also has a sadness of the past, she also escaped her pain and went in the opposite way of Elio finding in Key West the much needed restart, going to the island to help her cousin and his son Both deaf and in need of female support in their lives.

Now imagine a free spirit finding the beauty of a flower well attached to the earth .... It can only generate many doubts and questions as to whether the path is really right, is not it?
And that's how Elio saw his life transformed.

"How, for an instant, my heart wanted ... more."

Although this plot is narrated in first person by both Elio and Vianella, I knew in this book all the characters that will complete this series so different from everything I've read. I fell in love with each of them, especially Elio's parents who For me were the great example of true love and family love lovingly embraced these young people so different and so similar to each other.

The book begins by showing the rebellious and adventurous spirit of the three teenage friends Elio, Owen and Dylan and how thanks to the right help at the right time, they have managed to put their lives on the track.

With poetic and engaging writing, Yessi Smith brought me to the world of street artists and simple people who struggle day by day for their place in the sun. Without great pretensions to moral lessons, it shows how we human beings are flawed, how we must open our eyes to everything in front of us and how we always deserve many second chances.

She knew how to lead this love story with mastery, showing how little by little both Elio and Vianella were overcoming their pains and finding in each other the support and the exact freedom they needed to exorcise their demons and seek true happiness.

She also used many symbolisms such as storms, adventures and birds to convey her message about the moments of pain, anguish and joy of the characters which only made me feel even more drawn to the plot.

I loved very, very much .... passionatly ..... I just could not favourite because I did not agree with the repetition in some scenes of a certain attitude of these friends that I even understand happening through all their lifestyle and everything else , But I found it unnecessary to give a certain emphasis to this fact and also to a detail in the explanation of Elio's point of conflict.
Anyway ... not even those details ruined my love for the message and the whole plot.

Funny that I received this book to review by mistake, because I had not felt very attracted by the cover at beggining, but I say to you I have not regretted nor at least to have given a chance to it and I think it is to be reading obligator for all that wish to learn to Achieve your dreams.
4/5 stars.

Quietly Making Noise is a beautifully written story from start to finish. Yessi sure knows how to write!!! Her writing is poetic. Flawless. She can weave words together to create a story that is very real and very emotional. I couldn't help falling in love with it. I adored these characters so much. All their struggles and pain, love and happiness, was something I felt down in my bones. I connected very deeply with this story. This is a story that anyone can relate to and connect to in some way.

Elio is a hot, sweet man who just wanted to reach his dreams. Follow the stars. After what went down with his father at a young age, that was what he always strove for. His hometown was suffocating him so Elio and his friend, Dylan left to perform and met Annie along the way. They all three became buskers. And they cared about each other so much. Became a family. Later on, Elio gets a phone call and returns to his hometown with his two friends to face the one person who changed everything for him.

Vianella suffers great pain and guilt. What happened with her brother, she can't let ago. Because of this, she lives in a darkness that she can't escape. Doesn't want to escape. She moves to Key West to stay with her cousin and help him raise his son. She changes her life around and has a new profession in the paddle board business. Her fear of chickens was hilarious!!!!

Elio's and Vianella's relationship was basically a friends with benefits. They both just wanted the companionship, nothing serious. Elio didn't plan on staying, and Vianella didn't want to open her heart again. I loved watching their relationship slowly grow into something more even though they both didn't want it.

I love Dylan and Annie!! These two constantly lived in denial. They were always pushing each other away, and yet, they couldn't stay away from each other. I loved seeing their relationship grow through the pages of this book. See them come to the realization about their feelings and what they mean to each other. I am really hoping we get a book on these two!

Owen was my favorite character! I absolutely love everything about him. I love how his friends and family were able to express themselves and speak to him through sign language. How natural it was to all of them. I am really hoping Owen gets his own book. I would love to have some backstory on him becoming a father and so on. He is a wonderful human and a wonderful father to Devin.

This book is very emotional. After the shocking revelation, Elio was rocked to his core. I was completely shocked and didn't see that one coming at all. I wanted to reach out and hug him, because I felt his turmoil and confusion.

What I loved about Quietly Making Noise was the emphasis on how important family is. That family isn't just blood, but people that we love unconditionally. People who have always been there for us. I also loved that it was about following your dreams and finding your true happiness. This book is a MUST read everyone!!

Elio Delacruz has a complicated life growing up, but to say his life now was any simpler would not be true and his plans are changed in a way he never expected. Living his passion as a traveling busker with his friends, Elio is loving his life sharing his art with others but things from his past have him returning to his home in Key West. He doesn’t want to return and face the scars of his youth, yet there isn’t much else he could do. His life just got more complicated and painful. Now Key West is haunting him again.
His plan was to let Vianella Manco be his distraction while back on the island until he is able to leave again. A place that suffocates him. He wasn’t suppose to have feelings for her. She was just a way to feel free while dealing with his overbearing past. Once again life plans are changed. Truths that were believed were actually lies. Can Elio believe these recent turn of events? Will he see that his past and his future are intertwined in his budding relationship with Vainella?
Will Elio be able to handle the lies and find his freedom from the suffocating island and find his happiness again?
I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book as this is the first main character that was a traveling busker. You can tell the author did her research to be able to write the passion Elio has for being a busker. I really enjoyed this new experience. I learned more about those who entertain the public on the sidewalks of every town.
While at times this book is light and fun, there are some very emotional topics being discussed. There is so much to this book you will not be able to put it down. The twists and turns from a young Elio to the adult Elio are so unexpected they don’t go where you think they will. The interactions with all the characters are great and these relationships feel very realistic. Again the author has spent time researching things to make this book have that true to life feel. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

Look how the stars shine for Elio and Vianella. This book was magic dipped in whimsical with love sprinkles. I adore it from page one and couldn't stop.

Elio has a gypsy soul. He busks for a living and dreams of all the places he can take his show on the road to. He wants to touch everyones lives even if it's a stolen moment in time. Elio had the perfect childhood until a decision his dad makes forces Elio to become the breadwinner in his family. He acts out like any 13 year old kid would do when faced with the life that was thrust upon him and instead of doing wrong his dads friend sets him right. He learns to juggle and ride a unicycle and capture audiences with his handsome smile and his quick wit. His three best friends by his side he knows the true meaning of family.

Vianella has had a rough patch. Losing someone she cares about and blames it on everyone including herself she sets out for Key West. In Key West she moves in with one of her cousins to help him out with his son Devin. She's content in her life and owns a paddleboard business. She's coasting along afraid of the chickens until Elio comes into her life.

This story starts when Elio comes back to Key West to confront his past. This is a story of love and forgiveness. I was so enamoured with this story. It truly touched my soul. While I don't possess a gypsy soul I know some who do. Home is a person to me not a place that much I know. I loved that Elio tossed his dreams into the sky and achieved them one by one that he stole the audience one by one. He's someone to admire that's for sure. Go live your life it's the only one you got have fun, laugh often at the small things and take in the wonders around you.

This book did everything but quietly make noise in my heart. It took hold of my heart and would not let go.

Elio and Vianella's story is so heartfelt and passionate. I felt every raw emotion. Individually they have pasts that have molded who they are. Together they are faced with the challenge of breaking that mold to be together or letting their pasts keep them apart.

Elio is so unique he stands out not only to the reader but in the story as well.

"I worked my dreams into reality. Because of that, I can stand out in a crowd. Amid the laughter and mayhem of a regular day, I’m there. Just one person but with a life loud enough, it can’t go unrecognized."

It has been a while since I have read a book that I absolutely loved every character and can't wait to know more about each of them. Yessi Smith has a unique way of introducing not only the main characters but secondary characters as well. You fall in love. You need to know more...much much more about them.

Congratulations on this wonderful story, Yessi Smith. The beautiful cover and art work throughout with quotes is absolutely breathtaking and unique. I highly recommend this book to any reader who loves romance.

I know it makes the review longer but I must share my ultimate favorite quote: "Early morning rays start to peek through the tree limbs and cast a splatter of color on the ground around us. And I wonder if the sun ever watches us during its ascent and marvels at us and the beautiful splendor that we are. Every day, we rise and fight for ourselves. Every day, strangers become friends, and friends become lovers. Every day, babies are born, and families are formed. Every day, we live, and we love."

From page one I was intrigued about Elio and his friends. I liked Vianella but it was Elio that hooked me on the story. I have never read a story like this one before. I cannot wait to see what Yessi has up her next. Although I found the story slightly slow in parts I would definitely recommend sticking with it and carrying on reading because it is so worth it. Quietly making noise is a beautiful story that I am honored to say I got the pleasure of reading an arc. I also want to add that I love the cover to this book, the colours captured my eyes and it looks super pretty sitting on my kindle shelf.
One last thing: I love the unique names Yessi has used. I have never heard of them names before, although I struggled to pronounce them, I liked them. When I think of those names I think of royalty. * Ignore my random thoughts*

Elios is a busker. A street artist. The only reason he comes back home to Key West is because of family reasons.
When Elios meets Vianella, she is only supposed to be a distraction to the chaos that is going on in his life. He never expected her to steal a place in his heart. Elios is a free spirit at heart; he loves being a street artist. Since nearly going off of the rails as a teenager and being introduced to a street artist/juggler he uses his talent to block out the darkness of his past. That is until he has to return home and whilst he’s home he meets Vianella who is the cousin of one of his best friends. Although Elios swears that he is not staying, his heart has other ideas, ideas that make he want Vianella as his.

Quietly Making Noise - Yessi Smith - 5 stars

Busker: Street performance or busking is the act of performing in public places for gratuities. In many countries the rewards are generally in the form of money but other gratuities such as food, drink or gifts may be given.

This story is told in a dual POV. The characters are well developed. The friendships are strong and family is stronger. Vianella describes Elio as "He's a mystery, a walking contradiction, both soothing, both soothing and terrifying."

Elio has made a conscious decision to live his life. "As a wandering soul, I have this innate need to deliberately live". Vianella has made a conscious decision to change her life "while most civilized professions are trapped int eh confines of their careers, gentle waves wash over my feet." It feels like Yessi Smith wrote this story in a very conscious manner. There is love and laughter and tears and sadness. There is friendship and family and hardship and yearning. I loved this story. Scattered throughout the book are images with quotes. They are amazing and beautiful and if I could, I would post them all here.

I wish I could write this review as elegantly and as poetic as Ms Smith wrote QMN. All I can do is encourage you to read it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Elio is a Busker and a nomad, who comes home to Key West for family reasons; Vianella is one his best friend's cousins and has come to live in Key West to escape. Elio is a sweet, confident, somewhat alpha, sexy man with a sense of humour (yes, pretty much perfect). Vianella is one lucky girl! He swears he's not staying, but she feels like home, so will he be able to change his nomad ways for love?

The characters in this superbly written story are amazing. The chemistry between Elio and Vianella is something else! There's so many laugh out loud moments, yet in true Yessi fashion, we also get some dark secrets and life changing discoveries. Yessi's writing is like reading poetry...I felt like I read so many great things, words to pass on, to live by, to remember! Reading about these two coming to terms with their pasts, realizing their love, and the lengths they'll go to for that love, makes this a true love story.

This might be my fave Yessi Smith book so far, but then I think that every time she writes a new one. This is going to be one of those books that sticks with me long after I've read it. I also fell in love with Annie, who is by far one of the coolest secondary characters ever, and I will just be sitting over here waiting for her story!

Yessi Smith has the ability to create poetic genius. Over the course of her writing career she's made me laugh, cry, swoon, check my surroundings ... but mostly smile. I smile because every time I read a book by Ms Smith, I know I'm reading something completely unique. Something she's put her entire heart into. Something that no one else can come close to replicating.

Quietly Making Noise reminded me of reading about gypsies... people who love and live with their entire heart. Much the same way Yessi writes. Elio and Vianella were two original characters who I absolutely loved reading. They had their skeletons, their pasts that molded them, changed them, scarred and healed them. Neither had it easy. And while it may have partially define them, neither allowed them to live unhappily.

I think that's one thing I loved most reading Quietly Making Noise. Yessi's characters, while they all had their reasons to be broken and jaded, were fun, happy and loving.

It was a refreshing and incredible read - one that made me want to travel to the Keys and watch some busking!!

Congrats, once again, to Yessi for another masterpiece!

Quietly Making Noise by Yessi Smith

☆☆☆5 stars☆☆☆

An absolutely beautiful story of living free and following your hearts desire, even when others may not agree with your choices. Yessi has brought a magical touch to the street performer life, one most of us are unaware of.

Elio dealt with family issues at a young age, causing him to somewhat rebel, until a friend showed him the ways of the buskers aka street performers. He was a natural with a flair for the dramatics, and an eye for the ladies.

After years away from home, Elio is back and discovering things have changed in his absence. He's instantly drawn to the beauty that is Vee, who gives him a run for his money. Can he break through the walls of her past that have left her afraid to get close to anyone? If it's a possibility, Elio will be the one to do so, with his in your face presence.

A fresh and spirited story of love, loss and survival, Quietly Making Noise is a sure fire way to lift your mood and have you believing in yourself and what you choose to do with the life you've been given!
