AI in Orthopaedics
Abstract submission
Clinicians, scientists and technologists are invited to submit abstracts for a poster presentation at the AI in Orthopaedics Conference, held at The Royal College of Surgeons of England on 27 September 2022. This will be the first national conference dedicated to the role of AI (including Machine Learning and the application of Big Data) within orthopaedics. It provides an opportunity to share your research and ideas with policy makers, NHS leaders, senior clinicians, technologists and potential investors.
The importance of AI within healthcare, including orthopaedics, is broadly accepted. The challenge is to accelerate its application to deliver benefits at scale – helping the tens of thousands of people suffering from poor MSK health and increasing capacity across our healthcare system.
Additionally, the top 5 abstracts will be invited to give a 3-minute oral presentation at the conference.

Abstract submission guidelines:
Abstracts must be submitted by Sunday 31 July 2022. Abstracts received after this deadline will NOT be accepted.
Abstracts must not exceed the 350-word limit.
The accuracy of the submitted abstract is the responsibility of the authors, so authors should prepare and proofread their abstracts carefully before submitting to ensure it is the final version.
All correspondence relating to abstracts will be undertaken by email with the first named author / registered presenter, so it is their responsibility to communicate any relevant information regarding the submitted abstract and the conference to the other authors.
By submitting an abstract, the first named applicant confirms on behalf of the co-authors that the abstract is their own original work, is not defamatory or unlawful, does not infringe anyone else’s rights and that they have obtained any necessary permissions relating to images and data submitted. In addition, the first named author must ensure that he/she has the approval and copyright assignment from any co-authors and contributors involved in the work to ensure that the copyright is capable of being assigned to Orthopaedic Research UK.
Attendance at conference:
If an abstract is accepted the presenting author must register and pay to attend the conference. If the author does not register and pay, the application will be withdrawn.
Please note that failure to register may result in your abstract being withdrawn from the conference. Registration, travel and accommodation charges are the responsibility of the presenter.
Attending co-authors will need to register independently at the applicable rate if they wish to attend any part of the conference.
For oral presentations:
Your presentation should not exceed 3 minutes.
A copy of your final presentation must be submitted by e-mail to Orthopaedic Research UK (events@oruk.org) no later than 5 days before the event. You should also bring an additional copy to the conference on a usb stick as a back-up.
You give Orthopaedic Research UK permission to film or photograph your presentation at the conference, which may later be used on our website and social media accounts. Please state in your submission email if you do not wish us to film or photograph your presentation.
For poster presentations:
Poster specifications will be provided upon acceptance of your abstract. A pdf or JPEG of accepted posters must be submitted by e-mail to Orthopaedic Research UK (events@oruk.org) no later than 5 days before the conference
It is the responsibility of the first author/ named person to ensure the poster is on display in time for the beginning of the conference and must not be removed until the last refreshment break has finished.
Authors may, if they wish, provide A4 hand-outs or notes on their posters for delegates. It is the authors’ responsibility to bring these to the conference. In addition, authors should be available to discuss their poster with meeting delegates so they should indicate the time they will be available at their poster display.
Any posters remaining on site at the end of the conference will be disposed of.
Authors must take responsibility for the delivery, display and collection of their posters.
Orthopaedic Research UK does not accept liability for loss of or damage to posters.
