Screen sector heads for LA's Oscar Wilde Awards

Leading Enterprise Ireland-based companies in media and entertainment such as Windmill Lane, ShinAwiL and Screen Scene will attend the US-Ireland Alliance's 2023 Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Enterprise Ireland estimates that the Irish media and entertainment industry will be worth €6.14bn by 2026, and the agency supports over 90 companies in the digital entertainment sector, including early-stage exports and high-performance start-ups.

The sector comprises AR/VR, animation and live action production, VFX, games development, content aggregation and distribution, interactive, applications, immersive, audio and music technology.

Now celebrating 45 years in business, Windmill Lane has developed from being a recording studio to offer premium VFX and post-production work for projects from Netflix, Paramount, HBO, Amazon, Disney, BBC, Sky, ITV, RTÉ and Virgin Media.

Screen Scene also offers full-service picture, sound, and visual effects to productions from Marvel, Disney, HBO, Apple, and Netflix among many others, while ShinAwiL produces shows like Dancing with the Stars, Home of the Year, Dragons' Den, and The Apprentice.

Enterprise Ireland said the success of the media and entertainment sector in Ireland, particularly across animation, VFX and post production, is a testament to investment in innovation, artistry and technology and a growth in the number of studios nationwide. 

Speaking about its support of the Oscar Wilde Awards and wider creative industry, Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, said: “The success of Irish companies and individuals in the creative arena is a testament to the immense, strong talent emerging from the Irish digital entertainment sector here.

"Enterprise Ireland will continue to support our client companies in driving Ireland’s reputation as a centre of excellence for innovation, unique IP content creation, merchandising and licensing.”

An Cailín Ciúin is set to receive special recognition at the Oscar Wild Awards, which celebrate the work of people from Ireland in film, television and music, while Kerry Condon, Jessie Buckley and Eve Hewson are also in line for awards.
