Publisher's summary

The timeless romance, soaring passion - and gorgeous men - of Scotland comes to modern-day America. And the rules of love will never be the same…

Isabel Buchanan is fiery, funny, and never at a loss for words. But she is struck speechless when her mother returns from a trip to Scotland with a six-foot-tall, very handsome souvenir. Izzy’s mother is so infatuated by the fellow that Izzy has to plan their annual Highland Games all by herself. Well, not completely by herself. The Highlander’s strapping young nephew has come looking for his uncle...

Alasdair Blackmoor has never seen a place as friendly as this small Georgia town - or a girl as brilliant and beguiling as Izzy. Instead of saving his uncle, who seems to be having a lovely time, Alasdair decides he’d rather help Izzy with the Highland Games. Show her how to dance like a Highlander. Drink like a Highlander. And maybe, just maybe, fall in love with a Highlander. But when the games are over, where do they go from here?

“Laura Trentham creates a romance that is both extremely sensual and phenomenal.”

A Highlander Walks Into A Bar

This one was just pure fun I'm kinda sorry I put it off for so long...but lift got in the way. Izzy is not happy when she picks her mother up from the airport after her vacation and she has way too much luggage and has come home with a souvenir in the form of a 6 foot tall Scottish man. If that is bad enough, another man turns up looking for him. Alasdair has come to Highland, Georgia, looking for his uncle to bring him home. He has his work cut out for him. First his uncle tells them he is the caretaker when he is really the Earl and Alasdair doesn't tell them he is his nephew. Goodness! Then he tries to figure out what is really going on and looks into their finances since that is his background and his firm goes after their property. Good golly! Izzy is busy with getting everything ready for the festival and with Alasdair following her around and the chemistry between them these two are something. Twists and turns and tartans and a kilt and this was such a splendid story. I am looking forward to the next one!

Cute, but missed the mark

This story had an incredible cute premise and I may have really enjoyed it had I picked it up at a different time (it’s 2020 after all) but I kept finding myself thinking that this book was dragging on so much longer than I wanted it to.

Narration: I have not listened to this narrator before and I don’t think their narration will be for everyone, but I was impressed that they were able to capture both the Scottish and southern accents of the characters.

Good concept gone badly

Wow! This was quite an interesting amalgamation of a love for Scotland and the writer’s ideas of all things Scottish without a very well informed knowledge of the subject.
The reader was acceptable if there hadn’t been the necessity for speaking in accents. I mean really, this poor woman couldn’t speak in anything but a northern United States accent. Forget the Highland brogue or the posh London accents, and the southern drawl of Georgia was horrible and inconsistent.
I became so weary of the poor reading and trite storyline, that I finally skipped to the last two chapters to find out how the conundrums within the plot were to be solved. I wasn’t overly impressed with anything that would cause me to recommend this book - even the ending.

Slow and little plot

I didn’t get beyond 3rd chapter. Slow moving and the constant back and forth of attraction was overdone and dominated any story. I prefer more of a story.
