A Love Song for Liars

Rate this book
I fell for Tyler Adams when he had nothing but a guitar.
He was my rebel prince, my handsome muse, my twisted friend.
We were worlds apart in every way that mattered:
He was poor, I was rich.
He was beautiful, I was plain.
He honed his talent in private, while I ached for the spotlight.
When Tyler moved in with us, Oakwood Prep fell on its knees to worship at his altar.
He traded my friendship for their crown.
I will never forgive his betrayal.
But some nights...
He makes me want to.

A Love Song for Liars is Book 1 in the angsty new adult, academy-inspired Rivals trilogy. From USA Today bestselling romance author Piper Lawson!

Amazing!

I was three quarters of the way through the book before realizing there was a prequel so I will have to go back and read that as soon as I finish up this review. I really liked this angsty teenage love story between two former best friends who have grown apart even though they are now basically living together. Annie is the Daughter of Rock legend Jax Jamieson and she lives in the house while Tyler Adams lives in the Pool house.

Annie grew up with her Aunt and Uncle in Philadelphia and didn’t know Jax was her Dad until a few years ago. After he met his wife Haley and decided to semi-retire, he did a final album an tour and then moved them to Dallas but Annie and Tyler remained friends. Until four months ago when Jax brought Tyler to stay in the pool house to work with him in his home studio and attend Oakwood Prep for his senior year of high school. Annie is a junior at Oakwood as well.

Tyler immediately became one of the most popular students in school and Annie overhead him telling one of his conquests who asked about Annie that she was nobody special. Annie has several issues with Tyler, she misses him as a friend, she wants to be more than friends, she is jealous of him because her father works with him as a musician and she wants her father to see her as a singer but he absolutely refuses to consider it.

Tyler has problems because his abusive father keeps calling him, he misses Annie as his best friend, he thinks he isn’t good enough for her, he knows that Jax doesn’t want him making any moves on his daughter, but he is so attracted to Annie that he can’t stop thinking about her. And he feels he has to protect her from the kids that bully her in school.

There is a lot of drama in the book and and the romance is sweet but not too steamy in this first book. Though that didn’t deter from my enjoyment for once. There are some very hot kisses and dirty talk and a ton of chemistry between Tyler and Annie. I really liked the ending and can’t wait for the next book.

I haven’t yet read the story of Jax and Haley and I bought those books a while back so I hope to read those soon before this next in this series comes out. I’ve had those on my TBR for quite a while. That would be the Wicked Series (Good Girl, Bad Girl, Wicked Girl)!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

I couldn't wait for this book and after reading Love Notes, the prequel, this just knocked my socks off!! Loved both Annie and Tyler in the Wicked series and this is no exception. If you could fall in love with either any more, this is where you do it. I loved Jax in the Wicked trilogy but I fell a little out of love with him in this book, but that's OK be ause he's got another two books to make it up to me 😉. With everything going on in the world today it was nice to get lost in a book that took me back to those teenage feelings. These characters are the type where you want everything to go plain sailing for them but you know that without their heartbreak, which you can see is going to happen, they would never last and that would be the saddest thing of all. Loved the first book in this trilogy and wish I could give it more that 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 bring on the next one for my heart to break a little more

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

OMG! This book oozes angst. It's a roller coaster ride of emotions. The connection between Annie and Tyler is electric. It has all the turmoil that high school brings. The popular kids, the not so popular. The mean girls and her court of followers. All the drama. It gives the story a real feel. There is so much emotion in this story, you feel it pour from every page. I can't wait for the rest of their story to unfold.

OMG I CANT!!!
This book was beyond amazing!!!!!!!!!! The ANGST!!! Holy smokes! If you want enough angst to tear you to shreds, then this is the book for you. It no joke destroyed me.
And that ending!! I need book 2 ASAP!!!!
I absolutely loved this book!! It was so well written, full of emotion that will have you laughing and crying. A beautiful friends to lovers story that is somewhat forbidden.
Once I read the prequel (love notes), I knew this trilogy was going to be amazing and after reading A Love Story for Liars, I am not disappointed! This has me hook line and sinker which resulted in me being unable to put it down and binge reading the whole book in 4 hours!
Absolutely phenomenal and I am DESPERATE for the next book! I need it like I need air to breath! That ending was just tooooooo much!
But seriously, do yourself a favor and read this book! You will not be disappointed!!!

This one gets all the stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stories like this one are why I read NA books. Those overwhelming feelings and teenage firsts - this book has them all!

There is NOTHING like the sweetness of a first kiss & NOTHING like the crushing pain of first love.

These characters are well thought out, believable and you will be hooked on their connection. Fantastic dialogue, rich supporting characters and enough bad decisions to make you throw your kindle.

Teenagers making bad choices are my catnip. I need book 2 yesterday and I don’t care who I need to bribe to get it!

Definitely recommend.

I received an arc of this book.

NA romance is quickly becoming one of my go-to genres! Annie and Tyler have an off the charts chemistry. The attraction and emotions between them pour from the pages. The slow build to that first kiss is absolutely worth it! There are laugh out loud moments and moments where you want to throw your Kindle. Please don't throw your Kindle, you'll need it for books 2 and 3!

Filled with firsts, angst and all that goes along with surviving High School, A Love Song For Liars hits all the right notes!

All. The, Feels!! Talk about angst, love, torture. Absolutely loved this story. There might as well be a revolving door on Annie's life. Tyler is in and out of it constantly, pulling Annie's heart with him. To be fair to Tyler he is very torn, he wants Annie but feels he can't have her and doesn't deserve her because he's not good enough. He is so deserving of her love though.

Tyler just suddenly turns up at Jax and Hayley's house, registered to finish school at the same school as Annie and she is shocked because she didn't know. They hadn't spoken for a while and their relationship is strained. To make matters worse, Tyler walks into the school and becomes one of the cool kids, of which Annie isn't a member. Carrie, Annie's nemesis is determined to make Annie's life hell. She and her friends torture her at every opportunity. Will Tyler make matters better or worse? Time will tell.

OMG all the feels for Annie and Tyler. I have been waiting FOREVER for their story, and to say it didn’t disappoint would be an understatement. If you’ve read Piper Lawson’s Forever Wicked series (and if you haven’t, then you’re missing one of the best rockstar romances ever written), Annie is the daughter of rock legend Jax Jameison. Tyler is his protégée and had been Annie’s friend until they moved away. Now Tyler is studying with Ajax again, living in their pool house and going to the same snobby prep school as Annie.

I won’t say any more because you have to experience it first hand. The teenage bullying, the angst, first love, disappointments, romance and all the rest was so good, I finished it in one big gulp! Yes it ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger but their story is so big, it cannot be told in just one book. I think this romance will be even better than Jax and Hales. Piper, hurry up and get us book 2 please!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, but I plan on buying the final published copy, it’s just that good!

First of all, this is not an actual rock star story. The main characters love and are involved in music. They are just getting started.
Tyler and Annie were amazing characters and had a great chemistry but I am sad to say I couldn’t feel it.
It’s a YA story, Annie and Tyler act and speak more mature than their stated age.

Here we go with Annie and Tyler. Their bond was already forged long before this. What Annie's father doesn't understand is that it can't be severed. They can be apart, but they will still be drawn together like magnets when they see each other. It's not just their intense physical chemistry, but also because they understand each other in a way no one else does. That connection was palpable even when they were at odds. I get why Jax wants to protect Annie, though. He knows the lifestyle of musicians on tour. Add to that how young Tyler is, and Jax doesn't see him resisting temptation. In a lot of ways, he's no different than any other dad who wants his daughter to go to college and have a bright future. He just doesn't know how to convey that to her in the right way. Again, like a lot of dads, he's more prone to laying down the law than talking to her.

In the Wicked series, Annie was a precocious kid who had sass and charm. Now that she is an angsty teen, she has an adolescent girl's insecurity. Since Jax didn't explain himself, she feels rejected because she doesn't have his talent. It doesn't help that he's mentoring Tyler, who has talent in spades. Still, Annie is a thoughtful and caring person who wants Tyler to succeed. She's got strength of character that shines through amidst all the drama. You can just tell that she'll find her way.

I really felt for Tyler, because he really didn't get to be a kid. He's had so much put on him, and then he has to make a heartbreaking decision. It's all on him yet again.

That's not to say that there wasn't fun and satisfaction in this book. And passion! Tyler is confident without being obnoxious, and that's sexy. He's going to be a scorching hot man, and I'm so excited to read the next book and see how much hotter he gets!

I love following these characters as they grow and mature into adults. It's a treat to get engrossed in their lives, and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

OMG, this had all the feels. I was so invested in this story. I just couldn't put it down. This is a story that you will absolutely fall in love with.

This is the first full-length book that I have read by Piper Lawson and I really have been missing out. I absolutely loved her storytelling. The writing flowed seamlessly and with such a natural flair. It made it so easy to fall completely into the story. The plot of the story was very well crafted. I really loved the premise and how the story elicited all the feels. Putting this book down was just not an option. I was so compelled to read it.

Tyler and Annie were characters that warmed my heart. They were both very resilient characters. They were both either running from things or hiding from things in their lives. All while still trying to move forward and reach for their dreams. They were both very likable and relatable characters that I found very endearing. The kind of characters that you can't help but root for. I liked the secondary characters as well and I wish that we could have seen more of Tyler and Annie's friends.

The romance is one that I loved because Tyler and Annie started out as childhood friends. Though they met only a handful of years before the start of the book, they solidified a meaningful and intimate friendship. When Tyler comes back into Annie's life, there is all this history between them. They definitely have chemistry with one another and what's more, is that their childhood friendship makes it that much more meaningful.

Overall, this was a very emotional story with a very poignant ending that left me wanting more. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I am waiting with bated breath.

Oh my gosh! I’ve just finished ‘A Love Song for Liars’ and didn’t want it to end! I'm already eager for book 2.

I really liked this first book of Annie and Tyler story. I enjoyed a lot being in their heads while dealing with friends, popularity, bullies, parties, classes, crushes, dreams about an uncertain future and everything that comes along with being young and going to a private high school. I wish I could meet them for real and hang out with them. They are that cool.

Tyler and Annie come from opposite worlds but have been good friends from young years. They share a big passion for music and are pretty good at it but growing up is difficult and when they meet again only friendship maybe is not enough. Are they willing to face their feelings and their consequences?

I also liked a lot reading about some dear characters from the ‘Wicked’ series that I totally recommend to read to enjoyed even more ‘A Love Song for Liars’.

Summarizing, I loved Annie and Tyler’s thrilling first journey to adulthood in this angsty, entertaining, emotional and awesome book!

OVERALL REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS
I am super stoked to find out more about Tyler & Annie!
If you haven’t picked up the prequel, Love Notes, I recommend you do so before you begin this journey. You’ll figure out quick, like I did, that it’s necessary to the story :)

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARS
I really enjoy Rose Dioro’s narration, especially when she narrates a younger lead. Her voice is perfect for young/new adult! She did a really great job with Annie’s character! I also loved Teddy Hamilton’s narration. They both did really well together!

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4 STARS
This is just the beginning of Taylor & Annie. I emphasize just because their story is a trilogy (well, really 4 books if you consider the bonus book lol) so they have a whole lot of drama to navigate before we even begin to believe and/or root for them, in my opinion. I love them both already, but I know there’s going to be major drama coming my way in the books to come and I am here for it all!

There’s a lot of circumstances that unfold in this book, but none of them are the romance journey. There’s a lot of growing that both Annie & Tyler have to do, and this book lays the foundation to that. Yes, we know where these two are headed but we don’t know the how or the why or anything really LOL Honestly guys, this is like the least romance book I’ve read in a good while but it’s perfect!! Don’t get me wrong, these two have chemistry and there’s some sexy sweet moments and fire kisses buuuuuuuuut we have a ways to go before we get sexy sexy *wink*

I’m not usually one to look forward to reading such young characters, but Piper Lawson has sucked me into this world and I can’t wait to move forward with this journey. This is my first experience reading her and I’ve already downloaded a few of her other books!

Annie. You go girl! But sheesh at the same time! 🙄🤦‍♀️
Tyler. Jeez man! You all up in that antsy smouldering teenage boy mood, totally misunderstood right?? 🙄😂

The angst between Annie and Tyler is instant from the very first words on the page and I LOVED it!!
Love Song for Liars is full of angst, sweet swoon worthy moments that make your heart happy. Piper Lawson does a wonderful job in creating chemistry between Annie and Tyler and that only makes you want them to find happiness. They both want to be together but the outside influences are making it difficult. Annie wants to be seen, Tyler wants to be left in the background; he wants to stay away from Annie, but she is adamant that they belong together. Their journey has just begun and you can tell that this series will be full of ups and downs that will make their happy ending that much sweeter!

4 ⭐'s

This book starts off with the prequel, Love Notes, and that introduces us to Tyler and Annie.

We find out that they used to be friends until something happened eight months ago and Tyler went radio silent.

He's now very much back in the picture. So much so, that he's actually living in their pool house.

They attend the same high school, Tyler is a senior and Annie is a junior. Annie's a bit relieved because she's had some issues with the popular kids and she's counting on the support she will get from Tyler, that is, until he starts hanging out with those same popular kids. Annie just doesn't see the full picture.

Annie's also having to deal with an overprotective father/rock star, Jax. Circumstances are a bit murky as to what happened between him and her biological mom and then him having her live with his sister.

When Annie goes out for the school musical, those issues get ramped up even higher. Luckily, Tyler steps up in a big way.

Tyler and Annie start taking steps to further their relationship when everything goes to hell.

I didn't really care for all the high school drama but the angst and the promise of a more mature relationship kept me going.

Onto book two, A Long Song for Rebels.

I love a good bad boy high school romance, and Tyler is just the right side of bad. He has no clue of his capabilities, but Annie, knows. She knows he’s going all the way, and she’s willing to stand by him every step of the way. High school romance is always full of so much drama, and Annie and Tyler were always going to be high octane, after reading the prequel novella Love Notes, and having read the Wicked series, I just knew that Tyler and Annie’s story would rock my world. I just didn’t realise it would leave me in pieces. Truly wonderful writing, a completely addictive story that I loved. Teenage drama, broody wannabe rockstar, forbidden romance. The only thing I’m sad about is I’ve got to wait to find out what happens next. I was a bit of a wreck to put it lightly. Addicted to the characters, addicted to the story, addicted to love. None of the aforementioned books need to be read prior to this book, but as always, it’s always great to have a back story, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re sooooo good. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

Once you have read this be ready to hand your heart, soul and all your feels over on a platter. Annie and Tyler's story is the perfect NA romance that packed in all the feels and angst. The way the author pulled these two together and how they naturally had this magnetic pull creates for a magical read that is incredibly easy to relate to and impossible not to lose yourself in. As a reader you were brought right into the story with them and living the story and the feels right there with them.

I truly loved the prequel, fell more in love reading this book and now am sitting here anxiously and not so patiently wanting and needing book two.

April 15, 2020
I am NOT okay.
Annie & Tyler are absolutely incredible. Captivating from the very first interaction.
The rebel prince & the misfit rich girl are definitely not what anyone would call a match made in heaven. And that is perfectly fine, because for Annie, they don’t need to be.
The turmoil on these pages held me hostage from beginning to end. Rooting for the two of them, for each of them individually.
I think I may have developed a slight girl crush on our girl. She’s far wiser than her age would suggest.
And Tyler, I don’t know if I want to love him or hate him.
I guess I’ll decide in the next one.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

This book have way more angst then I expected and I'm here for all of it!

I haven't read the Wicked series, and this is my first book by Piper Lawson, but I really liked the writing and the pace.

It's been forever since I've read romance centered in highschool, and this couple have all the potential rockstar vibe rolling around.

It's hard to review the couple per se, cause it's a trilogy for the same couple, and although they're pretty much attracted to each other, they're both in different stages of their lives, with him dropping everything to be a rockstar, and she still having to finish her highschool and go to college!
There's also a bunch of highschool queen bee drama and oh boy... The things that happened on that prom... 😡😡

Her father (the MMC of Wicked trilogy), was a huge obstacle between them, and some of his coldness toward her, really bothered me.

It's a great begging for a trilogy with the same couple, especially cause it was fast paced.
But i still missed some steamy... Hope to get that on the next one , even if after that end, i want to actually throat punch Tyler!

🎧 About the Audiobook Narration 🎧

Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Rose Dior.
Teddy is a great narrator and Rose is new to me, but both did an amazing job with the narration, portraying perfectly all the angsty and intensity of them.
I love it!

Wicked life!

Life in Dallas has been an adjustment for Annie Jamieson, now 17, who struggles to blend in at her exclusive high school. This crazy place is filled with spoiled, entitled teens looking for drama and the queen of them all, making it her job to get her claws into Annie every chance she gets. Maybe she's afraid Annie's beautiful light will outshine her rotten, selfish darkness.

Now Tyler is here, studying and working with her dad, learning more about making the music he loves from THE Jax Jamieson, world famous former rockstar. Between his wife, her new baby sister and his music projects, Annie is feeling disconnected and almost invisible in this house. Except of course when Jax wants to control her, not SEE her, overruling what she wants, every chance he gets.

Tyler, gorgeous and talented, has become the fascinating prince of her school, the main attraction, it seems everyone wants a piece of him. He wows them with his music, while living in her poolhouse, mostly avoiding her...but why??? What happened to that boy Annie thought she loved??? Who is this guy? She doesn't even know him anymore!

Oh, the drama and torment- two hearts that shouldn't be denied unless promises were made that could never be kept. Annie is stronger than she feels, fighting for what she wants- to be herself and not who everyone else thinks she should be.

Piper Lawson has the crazy ability to make me cry all over my Kindle as the heartwrenching cliffhanger she just left me with stops me in my tracks, while sending me back to the good old angsty teen years of my younger days! I loved her book, she killed it again, as I knew she would!!! This emotional coming of age story left me feeling like I was the one dying inside instead of sweet, kind and beautiful Annie Jamieson, as her heart experiences first loves and losses along with fighting for the future she wants.

There is a prequel out there, Love Notes, that is free on Amazon right now and provides more details of Annie and Tyler's connection to each other. It's another heart stopper, quickly read and totally worth the time- before, or even after reading this amazing tribute to young love. This is just the beginning as there are 2 more books to read in this trilogy, to get to what I hope will be the EPIC conclusion for Annie and Tyler's story. I, for one, will be waiting for the end of May to read A Love Song for Rebels, Rivals #2!

I was gifted with an advanced copy to read and so happy to leave this honest review of a Love Song for Liars!

I DEVOURED this book. I couldn’t put it down. The emotions, the love, the heartbreak. This book seriously made me feel everything.

Annie and Tyler’s relationship has the makings to be something truly beautiful. There is so much angst. Their chemistry is amazing! They are best friends, of course, there is something more there. They have a deeper connection to one another, even if they shouldn’t. Annie just wants to be seen by her classmates and her father and Tyler rather remain in the background and not be seen by everyone. Annie wants to explore more with Tyler, but he knows that he should stay away. He knows that he can completely break her heart and that is the last thing he wants.

This is just the beginning of Annie and Tyler’s journey it is going to be one wild, emotional, angsty ride. It is a ride that I am dying to continue! A Love Song for Liars is a MUST READ and I can’t wait to see where the road takes them.

I have been waiting for this story since I finished Forever Wicked and again after I finished Love Notes and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Loved Annie and Tyler so much. Their relationship will take you on such an emotional ride and it is only book 1. I was so blown away while I was reading their story. Ms. Lawson has a way of dropping you in the world of her characters and you are going to feel everything that they are feeling. You are going to get angry for them and at them. You will cry along with them. You will fall in love with them. All I can say is that I need book 2 right now. I have to know what is happening with them. Awesome story but be warned it will end on a cliffhanger. You need to grab this book and delve into the world of Annie and Tyler. You won’t be disappointed but you will be craving book 2 when you are finished.

I read an early review copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Annie and Tyler were once best friends. Now they live in the same house (well, he's in the pool house) and it feels like they should be friends still, but they're not. Until maybe they are...and more? When Tyler's faced with a choice, though - Annie, or his future, which will he choose? Which means more to him? Jax, Annie's father and retired rockstar legend, has his opinion on what matters more to Tyler, and his choice will determine his and Annie's future.

I have to say first that perhaps I am not in the right frame of mind for an angsty, moody and broody YA/NA read right now, because A Love Song for Liars grated on me a tad. But only a tad. When it wasn't grating on me, I enjoyed it. Annie and Tyler have serious chemistry, and I think they have potential to be a great couple once they get out of their own ways, once they grow out of their angsty emo teenage phases, and I'm hoping that in the next installment, A Love Song for Rebels, the two will perhaps be in better places in their lives, be less teenagers and more adults. I have no doubt Annie will make Tyler work his ass off in apology, and I can't wait to read it.

Tyler and Annie stole my heart!
This was my first book from this author and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised.
The book is unique in its own way and I adored every minute of it.
Fast paced, captivating and with a heroine that I loved. Annie was an amazing character and I devoured her story.
Her chemistry with Tyler was out of this world. The book clicked all my boxes! I cannot wait for the sequel! So excited!
