RSE Leaders Meeting & Dinner – Monday 5th September 2022

Registration for this meeting and dinner has now closed. However, it may be possible to attend just the meeting during the afternoon. To do so, email Claire Wyatt (c.wyatt @ society-rse.org) to discuss attending the meeting. Unfortunately registering for the dinner has now closed.

We’re organising a colocated RSE Leaders meeting on Monday 5th September in Newcastle with Mark Turner, Head of Research Software Engineering at Newcastle hosting us at the Catalyst Building.

For the first time at our annual conference, we’re really excited to invite you to a Leaders Dinner that evening in a rooftop restaurant, the SIX restaurant at the Baltic Art Gallery with 360-degree panoramic views of Newcastle and the River Tyne.

The meeting will be a relaxed unconference style where anyone can suggest discussion topics during the lead-up to the meeting and we will vote on the day which discussions go ahead. You can also ask for a presentation on a particular topic and we will try to find a leader who has experience in that area to give a short presentation. Maybe you’d like to know how a few leaders manage their teams projects and budgets? Would you like to see the software they’ve created or adapted? Or examples of grant writing – successful or otherwise! Let me (Claire) know in the sign-up form or directly by email.

This meeting, refreshments, lunch and dinner is completely free to all participants and is funded partly by the Society and partly from our conference sponsors.

Complete this slide by the 8th August. The idea is that other leaders can read about you and your group before meeting up on the 5th AND we’re planning a one minute max introduction depending on how many leaders attend.

Trusted Research Environments meeting – Monday 5th September 2022

This meeting is aimed at RSEs interested in how Trusted Research Environments (TREs) are being run, developed, and standardised. This includes running TRE infrastructure on-prem or in a cloud, the design of workspaces and workflows in TREs, and improving collaboration across TREs.

The aim is to get to know others working in this space, to be a starting point for working together and sharing knowledge, and to organise follow-up meetings (in-person or online).

This is an in-person satellite event on Monday 5th September 2022, the day before the RSE Conference 2022, at the University of Newcastle.

The provisional plan is to have a morning session from 09:30-11:30 to avoid a clash with the RSE leaders meeting.

Following this, in the afternoon there will be a more informal session for general discussions.

The registration form is now closed. If you have any questions or suggestions for the event, or if you still wish to register, please contact Simon Li ([email protected]) or Hari Sood ([email protected]).

HPC and RSE Workshop – ExCALIBUR RSEs meet HPC Champions – Friday 9th September 2022

This hybrid in-person and online event is co-located with RSECon22 in Newcastle and brings together RSEs and others with an interest in high performance computing and exascale computing. The day will consist of a series of short presentations with plenty of opportunity for discussion and collaboration.

Teas, coffees and lunch will be provided for all in-person attendees.

Thanks to EPCC and ARCHER2 for sponsoring this event.
