Arriving By Train
Newcastle Central Station is on the east coast main line and directly accessible from London King’s Cross, Glasgow and Edinburgh. If traveling from the south, the best views of Durham Cathedral and the bridges over the Tyne are on the right side of the train when facing the direction of travel.
The Fredrick Douglass Center can easily be reached from Newcastle Central Station on foot or using the Metro. The venue is approximately a 10-minute walk and the closest stations are Monument and St James’. For more information see the Metro website.

Arriving By Car
Newcastle is easily accessible by road via the A1 from the north and south and the A69 from the west. Parking close to the Fredrick Douglass Center is very limited but there are a number of large car parks nearby. Please check the links below for times, cost, and facilities available.

Arriving By Plane
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles from the University and is linked to the city centre via Metro.
Regular flights from UK cities include London, Bristol, Aberdeen and Belfast.
It may be possible to fly directly to Newcastle International Airport from across Europe. Indirect flights typically change in London, Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris. Connecting flights from London to Newcastle fly from Heathrow airport.
The airport is about 7 miles from the city centre. You can travel by Metro from the airport to the city centre – the journey to Monument or St James (the nearest stops to the Fredrick Douglass Center) takes about 25 minutes.
Getting Around While Here
Newcastle is quite a compact city and easy to walk around, just be mindful that the centre is uphill from the river so some routes can involve steep climbs. There is a good public transport system, mainly the Metro and bus network. There are also scooters provided by Neuron that can be used in the city centre and some of the surrounding suburbs.

The Wylam Brewery is located in a park accessed by a long tarmacked driveway through the park. From the entrance gates, the walk to the brewery takes 10 minutes. For the night of our event, we have hired one golf buggy to do multiple trips from the entrance gates to the brewery building, however, you can walk from the entrance gates to the brewery if you wish.
