Royal Academy of Engineering - Frontiers  Symposium: Expression of Interest to participate in the Digital tools for Reversing Environmental Degradation symposium.
Use this form to tell us that you want to attend the Frontiers symposium on Reversing Environmental Degradation, to be held virtually in January 2023. Please note that places are limited and competitive, so expression of interest does not guarantee a place. We will be in touch with you as soon as possible if you have been successful. However, eligible candidates may be considered for future symposia with different themes. A detailed outline of your expertise and interest will improve your chance of selection.

The form is assessed on a rolling basis - due to the volume of applications we receive, we will not be contacting unsuccessful candidates.

Details about the symposium
The symposium will look at the potential for digital technology to solve the many challenges related to environmental degradation in Africa and Asia. The event will explore this theme through three categories:
1. Technology that supports participatory approaches to decision making
2. Technology for data access, visualisation and analysis
3. Real-time monitoring and learning.

The event will aim to move the conversation beyond understanding the challenges into real-world applications and solutions.

The Frontiers programme connects and empowers early-mid career researchers, innovators, and practitioners from around the world to work together on new ways to solve complex global challenges. By putting collaboration and interdisciplinary thinking at the heart of development, this event looks to catalyse creative solutions that deliver impact to achieve a sustainable and inclusive society around the globe.

Frontiers symposia create a fertile ground for collaboration with themed interdisciplinary symposia around a topic related to global development challenges to encourage new discussions and connect different groups. Seed funding of up to £20,000 over a year is awarded to successful collaborations from the symposium.

Expectations
The Academy will cover all reasonable costs to support your participation. This will not include salary costs but will include, for example, travel, accommodation and subsistence, and the costs of any access requirements. Please get in touch to discuss these needs if you are unsure.

The event will take place over two weeks. Participants are expected to dedicate at least one hour per day during that time to engaging with the event, plus around four hours over two days for the live sessions (exact dates tbc). If you think you will not be able to dedicate this time, please consider recommending that a colleague applies instead. Places are competitive and highly selective, so if you cannot participate fully, please make space for someone who can.
