Jubilee Centre Opening - Portobello Estate

jub centre

The Jubilee Centre opened its doors to visitors on Friday 8 October with the arrival of Millennium Community Solutions (MCS).

Formerly known as the Portobello Community Hall, the new centre based at the Portobello Estate in Norwood will provide a range of community activities including after school reading sessions, coffee mornings and computer classes. There will be opportunity for residents to improve their IT skills  whether they are a beginner or need more advanced training.

The Portobello Estate TRA will still have access to the facility for their meetings and annual summer youth project. MCS will be working on the ground to provide all the necessary support, training and guidance needed to get the project off the ground.

Chief Executive and founder of MCS, Rev Gail Thompson said "We are proud to be part of this fantastic project and very much looking forward to serving the people of Norwood."

This is the second community project MCS have undertaken with us following on from their successful venture at Southwyck House in Brixton. Alongside MCS and our staff, representatives of building management team T Brown and Knights Hill ward councillors attended the special event. Rev Thompson is pictured with Cllr Jane Pickard cutting the ribbon.

Norther Line extension - Line of Light

Line of Light -a celebration event to mark the opening of the Northern Line Extension and new tube stations at Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms, as well as the communities that live above the new underground route, is planned for the weekend 29 and 30 October.

The event will run between 6:30pm and 10pm on both evenings and will be a light artwork and community festival with light beams mapping the physical route of the new underground lines between Kennington and Battersea Power Station and digital projections onto buildings along the route.

Two festival ‘hubs’ – on Wilcox Road and New Union Square (Wandsworth) - will offer free entertainment and a place to meet from 4pm to 9pm on both days.

The full programme and route with information about the location of the artworks and soundtrack to accompany projections is available online.
