Healthy Start Scheme

The national Healthy Start scheme aims to help families with children under four buy food and milk with monthly allowance worth more than £1,200 per child. Families may be eligible if they are at least 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under four and receive:

  • income support
  • income-based job seekers allowance
  • income-related employment and support allowance
  • child tax credit (with family income of £16,910 or less per year)
  • universal credit (with family take-home pay of £408 or less per month)

The scheme is transitioning to a digital system, which means:

  • Applications can now be made online How to apply – Get help to buy food and milk (Healthy Start). Applicants will need their National Insurance number*
  • The old paper vouchers are being replaced by a store card which will be topped up automatically every four weeks. They are accepted at any food store which takes Mastercard Chip and Pin or contactless payments.

Fire Safety Volunteers

We want to make sure that any fire hazards on your estate are identified as quickly as possible so that they can be addressed by our various teams.

We conduct regular inspections, but no one knows the estate better than residents. That’s why we’re launching a new resident volunteer initiative.

We are asking residents to volunteer to keep an eye out for any potential fire hazards and report them to us. You’ll get access to our special fire safety reporting tool so that you can report anything you notice around the estate directly to us on your phone.

We’ll also give you free training and experience with the fire safety and major projects teams that can also be used for future career opportunities. If you’d like to sign up, please email hmfiresafety@lambeth.gov.uk to find out more.

How we’re working to improve fire safety on your Estate through inspections and works:

  • fix holes, gaps in walls, and ceiling voids and loft spaces.
  • inspecting fire doors
  • keeping shared spaces clear of material that could catch fire
  • fire risk assessments

We hope that with the help of resident volunteer, we’ll be able to identify risks more quickly and make sure the right action is taken to keep everyone safe.
