Hook House Community Hub

The Hook House Community Hub has secured funding of £5,875 from the National Lottery. This has enabled the hub to start paying volunteers who have been assisting with foodbank deliveries and the running of the music studio. Hook House has also teamed up with Letro community Initiative and they have helped to deliver mentoring sessions and podcasting (film and audio) for youths aged 14 to 24.

Lerato and Hook House have also received further funding from GLA Civil Society Roots Incubator and plan to deliver a streaming online station early in the New Year. Visitors to the hub can also expect to see improvements to the physical structure with changes made to the kitchen and podcast area. Centre Manager, Janique Ovid, said “These are very exciting times as we approach 2022. It is very rewarding to see the young people of the Holderness Estate enjoying themselves and interacting with their peer group”.

Changing Lives

Changing Lives is a social value programme that is making Lambeth better by supporting local residents with big ideas to get them off the ground. It’s also providing new employment, training and volunteering opportunities. You can find out more online or by emailing  them at changinglives@lambeth.gov.uk

Draft Site Allocations Development Plan Document Consultation

We are seeking your views on the Draft Lambeth Site Allocations Development Plan Document (SADPD). Following on from the adoption of the Lambeth Local Plan in September 2021, the Draft SADPD includes site-specific planning policies for fourteen sites in Lambeth, distributed across the borough.

Once adopted, the SADPD will become part of the statutory development plan for Lambeth.  Alongside the Lambeth Local Plan 2021, the London Plan 2021 and the South Bank and Waterloo Neighbourhood Plan 2019 and associated planning guidance, the SADPD will help deliver new homes and workspaces, secure benefits for communities and improve the quality of places and the environment in Lambeth.

Please visit the consultation page to view the Draft Site Allocations DPD and to submit comments.

Comments must be received by 11pm on 22 February 2022.

Thriving North Lambeth

thriving

As part of Neighbourhood working and Resident Participation, we collaborated with the Thriving North Lambeth Forum which is a collective of local practitioners and key community leaders working together in identifying and delivering to the needs of our communities at a grass roots level.

After months of planning and overcoming obstacles the Thriving North Lambeth Forum and partners supported in delivering an amazing, collective community event that was a big success, even with the less-than-ideal weather conditions.

We accommodated over 600 residents from local neighbourhoods with activities and services that included: a Santa’s grotto, Bouncy castles, Face painting, Health & Wellbeing bus offering vaccinations and advice, local schools children performing on stage, the Brixton Peoples Orchestra and many others.

Over 14 organisations and volunteers sponsored and helped to deliver this event ranging from local developers, Vauxhall BID, City farm, NHS, Police, Schools, TRAs and others.

This was a great example of engaging with our resident through Neighbourhood Working which shows the benefits of working together, collaborating, and supporting our communities. Whilst this was a fun filled day it was beneficial in different ways for all that attended, for example many new connections and relationships were built, reputational growth and building of trust with our residents for all organisations, awareness for residents of organisations in their locality, how they can access services and more.
