Dear TRA Committee Member,

Welcome to our TRA Newsletter. In this edition you will find information on recent and upcoming events, our new tenancy sign up video, funding options for events, and learning opportunities.


Norwood High Street art trail

Norwood Highstreet Art Trail takes place 17 March to 17 April featuring works displayed in shop fronts from artists from West Norwood, Streatham, North London and Norwood School.


Community Connections Fund

The Community Connections Fund is a new grant scheme to support local groups who have big ideas, to make their communities better, fairer, and safer places to live. 

This £4million fund has been raised through developers’ payments into the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) and will be spent in phases over the next three years. NCIL funds projects which address the impact of new development and ensure local people benefit from sustainable growth in the borough.

Expression of interest applications must be submitted by 30 March 2022.


Rush into Spring celebration

A family-friendly celebration of the re-animation of Rush Common with new playground, play trail, planting, trees, seating and lighting all making a place we are proud of.

Show your support and enjoy music from Brixton Chamber Orchestra, Brixton Tatterjacks morris dancing, tree and history talks and information, children’s fun fitness workshops with St Matthew’s Project, and gardening and plants to take home with Father Nature.

The event will be focused around the playground on Rush Common.


Tenancy sign up video

There is a now a Tenancy Sign Up Video published on our YouTube channel. This video is a helpful resource for new tenants and explains what they can expect in their new home.


Spring of Food and Fun

Our Spring of Food and Fun runs from Monday 4 April to Thursday 14 April 2022.

The programme is aimed at helping local families with children and young people aged 4 to 16 who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

Join us and get access to:

  • free healthy meals
  • fun physical activities to suit different tastes and ages
  • guidance on food and nutrition for the whole family

Deronda Estate community action day

Deronda Estate held a community action day on Tuesday 15 March 2022. The day began with a welcoming session at the community hall and an opportunity to meet the staff of Lavender Hope

Since March 2020 Lavender Hope have been located at the community hall, providing a range of activities for people of all ages and abilities. A number of issues were identified and these will be incorporated into an estate action plan with the support of the Deronda Estate TRA.

Everyone was then invited to hear more about the future proposals being developed by Lavender Hope over tea and cakes in the community hall. Their Chief Executive Lyndsey Fyffe explained about the different partners, such as Morley College, who will be engaged in delivering services from the Centre.

The day concluded with the official unveiling of the mural which marks the vision of Lavender Hope and the community of the Deronda Estate.     


Newsletter survey results

Thank you for participating in the survey on the newsletter. We will still produce it on a monthly basis and will prioritise stories about:

  • events and activities on our estates and with external partners
  • funding opportunities such as grants and community chests
  • information about resident engagement such as Area Boards
  • training, development, and consultation opportunities

Iconic Steps film academy courses

iconic steps

Iconic Steps Film Academy is dedicated to providing the initial step for young people into the media industry.

Students learn and develop their craft as filmmakers, using professional equipment and industry standard editing software. They provide a link to the commercial media industry and students that attend are put in contact with industry professionals to help kick start their career.

Industry filmmaking - 25 to 29 April - 11am to 5pm

Work with industry experts to learn the nuts and bolts of filmmaking. By the end of the week, you will have produced, shot, and edited a short film, giving you the skills and experience to develop your career in the industry.

Criteria: 19-65 year old unemployed Lambeth residents (or in receipt of universal credit)

Brixton Creative Works – Get Set

Alongside our courses we are supporting young people get into education and employment through our Get Set programme. This involved individual meetings focusing on career skills, coaching and employability.

Criteria: 16-24 years old, unemployed Lambeth residents.

Housing for Women safe space drop in

housing for women

Housing for Women offers a safe space drop in women escaping human trafficking and rebuilding their lives. They provide practical and emotional support with housing, finances, immigration, training & education, health & wellbeing, and the criminal justice system.

Sessions are every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 3pm. for more information, advice, or the drop in location please contact:


Area Board Corner

The next Area Board meetings are the AGMs in May. If you are interested in getting involved please ask your registered TRA to nominate you. You can also contact your Resident Participation Officer for more infromation or email gettinginvolved@lambeth.gov.uk


Changing Lives

Changing Lives is a social value programme that is making Lambeth better by supporting local residents with big ideas to get them off the ground. It’s also providing new employment, training and volunteering opportunities. You can find out more online or by emailing  them at changinglives@lambeth.gov.uk


Preventing terrorism

Lambeth Prevent team is offering free training for groups working with Lambeth residents which aims to help attendees:

  • Develop an understanding of Prevent aims, terminology and processes;
  • Build an understanding of how radicalisation works, and who may be vulnerable;
  • Understand what Prevent looks like locally, and who to contact if they have concerns.

Sessions last 60-90 minutes and can be delivered either at your setting or at the Lambeth Council offices in Brixton. Contact prevent@lambeth.gov.uk if you are interested in arranging a session or have any questions
