1 week to go until Cycling Time Trials -
are you ready?

There is just one week to go until the Commonwealth Games Cycling Time Trials arrive in Wolverhampton, and although it's a very exciting time for our city, an event of this size inevitably means there will be some disruption on the day.

We want to make sure that all residents and businesses have been able to 'Get Set' for the Games and are prepared as much as possible, whilst still being able to enjoy what will be a fantastic event.

Time Trial Schedule 

This energy-sapping event pits riders against each other in a race that they cycle alone. With breakneck speed valued above everything else, prepare to be amazed by this fast-paced spectacle. 

The time trial is a race between cyclists who compete only against themselves – and the clock. 

Each rider sets off at minute intervals, enabling them to focus only on achieving the fastest time possible without jostling other competitors for position.

The route will be made up of a 37.4km circuit for men, and a 28.8km circuit for women. Each rider is timed individually, with the fastest rider securing the all-important place on the top step of the podium. 

10am - 11:15am: Women's Race

12pm - 1:30pm: First wave of Men's Race

2pm - 3:30pm: Second wave of Men's Race

Free city park and ride service for Cycling Time Trial event

A free park and ride bus service will be available for residents on the day the city hosts the Commonwealth Games cycling Time Trial.

The new option is being made available to anyone who needs to get into the city for work or other appointments and those who would like to enjoy the atmosphere at our free Festival site.

The service will run from the city’s racecourse to Wulfruna Street, operating at 15 minute intervals from 7.30am to 7.30pm. This will enable residents to park for free outside the city and make their way in via the free shuttle service from early in the morning until the evening. Find out more here.

Increased cycle parking available

Cyclists can access 250 cycle parking spaces at School Street car park. The free and secure cycle park will be open from 9.30am-5pm on the day of the race and will cater for all bikes, including accessible or large cycles, as well as cycle helmets.

Cycle racks will be enclosed and stewards will provide uninterrupted supervision of cycles. Users will be presented with a wristband and all bikes must be removed prior to closure of the cycle park. Find out more here.

For anyone planning to travel by bus, there will be some disruption to bus routes into and around the city.

Catch all the action at our Festival Site

A full day of exciting sporting commentary, live entertainment and have a go activities can be enjoyed as the line up for the FREE Wolverhampton Festival Site has been announced.

Anyone who couldn’t get tickets to the main event can watch all the action for free at the Wolverhampton Festival Site, on Thursday 4 August, at Old Market Square from 9.30am to 6pm.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the excitement of live sport as cyclists zoom through Old Market Square. Or grab a seat, soak up the electric atmosphere and watch all the action on the big screen.
