What's coming up
We will begin installing new block paving in the footway next week outside Cresswells Garage and also between Londis Red Oak Store and the California Ratepayers Hall.
Additional signage is also being erected on Tuesday next week to help drivers navigate the diversion routes on polling day (Thursday 2 May). The Ratepayers Hall will be accessible to drivers via Finchampstead Road and the Finchampstead Baptist Church (FBC) Centre will be accessible via Barkham Ride.
Further information about diversion routes during this project can be found on our website and one.network.
Pedestrian access will be maintained to both polling stations at all times.
What's been happening so far
The team have been split in two this week with one group working outside Cresswells Garage and the other working between Londis Red Oak Store and the Ratepayers Hall.
They have successfully finished installing the new kerb line in both of these areas and preparations works have also been carried out this week in both areas to level the ground ready to install new block paving.
Drainage works for phase one are also nearly finished with 98% of the work now complete.
Changes to parking access
Just a reminder that access to the car park outside Londis Red Oak Store and Bob's Fish and Chip Shop from Finchampstead Road has been reinstated.
We have ensured the car park remains accessible throughout the project. Access to the car park was switched back to Finchampstead Road this week and is no longer accessible from Nine Mile Ride. This to allow the team to start laying the new kerb line and footway paving on this approach to the crossroads.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and signage in relation to this car park will be switched to accommodate the new access arrangements.
Local business owners have been made aware and we ask you to continue to support your local businesses throughout this project
Road maintenance works
Each year, we invest millions of pounds repairing roads across the borough through our annual maintenance programme. Roads are assessed and monitored throughout the year using a range of techniques, which informs the plan for the coming year.
During the summer, as part of our California Crossroads improvement works, we will be carrying out repair works on Finchampstead Road South.
Residents and businesses located on these roads will be contacted directly prior to works beginning with exact dates, and advanced warning signs will be placed in the vicinity of the works to keep residents informed. Further information in regards to the schedule for the structural maintenance programme will be made available on our website.
Support your local businesses
We're working with local business owners to encourage everyone to support shopping and doing business locally during the improvement works.
If you're going out to pick up a pint of milk or a takeaway, filling your car up with petrol, or looking for somewhere to go on the weekend, remember to think of your local businesses first.
