When coming up with a concept for this brief I knew that I wanted to take a chainsaw to ice and that I wanted to comment on our collective struggle with the pandemic, more specifically the social limitations imposed by lockdowns and social distancing.

Having pretty much a full year off carving ice which is something I usually do daily has been pretty strange and to say I've missed it would be an understatement, but it's nothing compared to the loss some people have experienced throughout this situation. And my feelings of missing work are dwarfed by my own feelings of missing friends, family and life in general.

I wanted to capture a moment in time. A child and her grandad frozen in time unable to embrace to highlight the desperation and frustration of our situation.

My hope is that these social limitations completely melt away, and that we will all have a bigger appreciation for the things in life we may have taken for granted.
