How to Apply

(For academic year 2024/25 only)

What do I need to include in my application?

Please check your qualifications match the entry requirements for the course you are applying for.

When reviewing applications particular attention will be paid to academic performance.  Given the competition for places, preference will be given to applicants who have or who are projected to exceed our minimum requirements.

As part of your online application you will be able to upload scanned documents.  

Please do not merge separate qualifications together.

Make sure that you include all the documents requested below, incomplete applications may not be continued if we feel that it is less likely that we might make an offer, or if it is felt that insufficient effort was made in submitting the application.

Please do not upload academic documents to the funding section as we cannot access these.

If we do request any further information, please make sure you read any requests carefully and provide the correct information as we will not chase you further.

Your application must include the following:

• A copy of your degree certificate and complete transcript. If you are still studying, please provide your latest transcript plus a list of modules yet to be studied.
• Evidence of your final or current overall % or GPA (see the country specific information below for further guidance if you are studying in China, India or Canada).
• A copy of your grading scale/scheme if this is not on your degree transcript (these are sometimes on the reverse of the transcript).  

If you have them, please include the following:

• Your approved English Language test (if applicable).
• CAS, BRP and Visa – for International students that have previously studied in the UK on a Student visa. 

We are usually able to issue a conditional offer without these documents, but if they are required we will not issue an unconditional offer until we have received them.

• CV/resume

If you have one, please include an up-to-date CV showing your relevant work experience and education.  Decisions are normally made considering your academic background only, however a CV can be useful in clarifying your education and possibly considering work experience where appropriate.

Documents which are not required:

• References.
• A personal statement.

We will not check these items. You should include all relevant experience in your CV.

Country Specific Information

Applicants with Indian degrees:

All applicants with an Indian degree should include

• A copy of your bachelor’s degree certificate.
• A copy of your consolidated mark sheet.
• A copy of your semester mark sheets.
• A copy of your University marking scheme.
• Official evidence of your current/final overall award in percentage (%).

If you have not completed your degree you should provide the bottom three items.

Your Standard XII may be acceptable as an English language qualification, please include a copy with your application if you have achieved 70% or greater.

Applicants with Chinese degrees:

You will need to provide evidence of your current/final overall weighted percentage, we do not accept GPA or arithmetic percentage.  Applicants with Chinese degrees usually provide an ‘Average Score Certificate’.

Applicants with Canadian degrees:

Please provide details of the grading system used on your transcript. This should include the percentage pass mark for your degree.

If your degree was taught in English please include official evidence of this.

Scholarship applicants

Those applying for scholarships through the University should make sure you have provided good and complete scans of all documents listed above in the “must include” section, this can affect a decision on whether to recommend an applicant for a scholarship. 

Contacting the School MSc admissions

When contacting the School MSc admissions please either email us at pgtelec@leeds.ac.uk from the email address you created your application portal account with or create an enquiry within the applicant portal. 

Supporting documents should be sent via an enquiry in the applicant portal.

If you informing us of a scholarship/funding deadline please try to give us a minimum of two weeks notice.

Emails should be from the email address you opened your application portal account with and you should quote your full name and application number or SID if you have them.

When to apply

The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering operates a staged admissions process for the following Masters courses with selection deadlines throughout the year:

• Electronic and Electrical Engineering MSc (Eng)

• Embedded Systems Engineering MSc (Eng)

• Engineering Technology and Business Management MSc (Eng)

• Mechatronics and Robotics MSc (Eng)

Application deadlines for courses starting in September 2024 are shown in the table below.

We receive a high volume of applications, therefore we may need more time to assess your application. If this is the case, we will carry your application to the next stage.

Applications for each stage open immediately after the deadline for the previous stage. All deadlines are 23:59 UK time.

Offer holder deadlines

IMPORTANT: The deadline for meeting offer conditions is Monday 12 August 2024.

 If your offer has been confirmed as unconditional, the deadline for paying your deposit or providing exemption evidence is Monday 26 August 2024.
