Quite aside from tropes about children who think milk comes from plastic bottles and fish fingers from the freezer, mostly, we may not really know, or may not care, what we’re eating or how it got to our plates. But it really matters - for humanitarian reasons, for reasons of social justice, and for our health. Ten years! We first hosted Food Dialogues in 2014 in a cozy room above a coffee shop, and this year we had two weeks of events with hundreds in attendance and a media audience of over 50 million. Can you believe it? The impact has been remarkable. And next year will be even better. Be sure to save the date for when we turn ten: 22 July - 4 August 2024. So much has changed in a decade and so have we. While our vision of “fostering a food system that is more healthy, resilient, and just” remains unchanged, we recognise that the scope of the event has grown to include more than dialogue, providing a platform and opportunity for gathering and engagement in diverse formats across a wide range of communities and geographies. The programme now includes a conference, workshops, chef-led cooking and eating events, inter-faith dining, walking tours, arts exhibitions, webinars and more. We also now have 14 partner organisations (and growing) helping us make it all happen. To reflect this change, we are also changing our name to the FOOD INDABA. Sunday Funday for the kids: 🥳 The Food Dialogues Programme continues today with not one but TWO kid-friendly fun-filled activities to educate, entertain and entice! 🙌 🕙 From 10AM - 12PM today, kids aged five to 10 years-old are invited (with a parent to supervise of course!) to explore flavour profiles in our Guided Children and Parent Food Adventure at Maker's Landing at the V&A Waterfront. 📍 🕑 From 2PM - 4PM, teens take the wheel on our Teens Food Journey at Food Jams in Salt River where a chef-led culinary adventure will focus on stories of the why and where of our food choices.
