PART 2: Membership Types
PROPOSAL: Define types of membership based on forms of engagement/commitments. EMCA4RJ currently has no defined criteria for membership, which means that our meetings are open to people who have never attended before or attend only sporadically. While we value the accessibility of this structure, we’ve noticed that it undermines our ability to assess how our activities and engagement align with our mission and values. We propose transitioning to a structure with two types of membership, where meetings and other internal activities like data sessions are restricted to those who commit to our group’s values and participate regularly. We believe this will foster a culture of reciprocity and accountability, build trust within our community, and strengthen our collective ability to enact our core values.
Proposed membership types:
- MEMBERS: Those who commit to a) uphold the EMCA4RJ community values, b) advance EMCA4RJ’s mission and vision both within and beyond EMCA4RJ activities, and c) attend monthly meetings and contribute to at least one committee
- ORGANIZERS: Members who commit to all of the above and take responsibility for coordinating EMCA4RJ activities and shared decision making at the committee or whole-group level.
