IEL ESIL IG - Agora Panel Proposal
The ESIL Interest Group on International Economic Law is preparing an Agora panel proposal on "The Adjudication of Foreign Investment Disputes within the Digital Economy" for the ESIL Annual Conference 2024 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Agora aims to discuss the future of foreign investment dispute settlement in the context of technological change and the expansion of the digital economy. While it is true that the adjudication of foreign investment disputes in international law has been the subject of much debate about its legitimacy, there is still insufficient attention to the impact of various disruptive technologies. The challenge is twofold: On the one hand, there is a need to understand how the digital infrastructures of the global economy should be understood within the concepts of investment law introduced in international treaties. On the other hand, there is a need to understand how the development of new technologies is changing the legal craft used to adjudicate international and transnational investment disputes.
