New Future Worlds Accelerator Space to open on Highfield Campus

Future Worlds is excited to announce plans for its new Accelerator Space coming to the Highfield Campus this September. The vibrant space will play a vital role in growing the entrepreneurial culture at the University of Southampton in the new academic year.

The physical hub will host up to 15 resident startups for its six-month accelerator programme, while also hosting startup talks, workshops and investor pitching opportunities as part of Future Worlds’ unique entrepreneurial network.

Work has started on the new space, based in Building 1 on University Road, which more than doubles the capacity of Future Worlds’ current accelerator in Building 16. The space will also include hot desks, flexible meeting booths, a board room that converts into a film studio and a state-of-the-art AV system.

Future Worlds is nurturing aspiring entrepreneurs and cutting-edge technologies through one-to-one support and its network of seasoned founders, investors and millionaire entrepreneurs.

Reuben Wilcock, Future Worlds Director, says: “We’re thrilled to announce we have this brilliant new space launching in September. We’ll be opening up the side of the building with an incredible glass frontage and creating a culture of inspiration to spark the next generation of entrepreneurial journeys at the University of Southampton.

“If you’re a student or researcher with an early stage business then now is the time to act – we have a limited number of permanent desks available. This is a unique opportunity to benefit from Future Worlds’ expert mentoring and work side-by-side with some of the University’s most talented entrepreneurs and most exciting startups.”

Future Worlds was launched in September 2015 and moved into its current accelerator space in October 2017. To date, the initiative has supported over 180 University entrepreneurs who have gone on to form over 40 new companies. Founders have ranged from first-year undergraduates to University professors.

“Our entrepreneurial ecosystem has come so far in just three years,” Reuben continues. “This bold next step will help us to reach our goal of growing a west coast US startup culture, on the south coast of the UK.”

Students and researchers who are interested to begin their entrepreneurial journey in this incredible space can apply now to the Future Worlds Accelerator Programme.
