How to apply?
The application will be online via the AlmaWeb portal of Leipzig University (Please select „Global Studies, Master, 1st semester“).
The application deadline for students applying for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is 15 March 2024, 23:59 CET.
The application deadline for all other students is 31 May 2024, 23:59 CET.
Below is the overview of the application documents requested for the next intake.

Please note, however, that the application for the EMGS programme is not possible via uni-assist, but only via the application tool of the of Leipzig University (AlmaWeb).

1. A curriculum vitae in English (1-3 pages)
(You may consider using the Europass CV as a template.)
2. Motivation letter in English
This letter should explain why you are interested in this particular master’s programme (1–2 pages). In case you have a preference for your mobility track, please specify this in the motivation letter and why you would like to study at the respective universities.
3. Proof of nationality (e.g. copy of passport)
4. Proof of residence
According to the rules set by the European Union, this proof can be either provided in the form of a residence certificate issued by the candidate’s municipality OR a certificate from the candidate’s place of work, study, or training issued by the respective institution. The document must have been issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of applying for the scholarship.
5. High school diploma (secondary school leaving certificate, e.g. Baccalaureate, A Levels) or equivalent (AND certified translation into English, if the document is not issued in English or German)
6. Official high school transcripts (AND certified translation into English, if the document is not issued in English or German)
7. University diplomas ( evidence of all completed degrees (e.g. Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diplom) (AND certified translation into English, if the document is not issued in English or German)
If you graduate after the application deadline, admission will be considered based on your university transcripts.

9. English test results
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide test scores for one of the following standardized English proficiency tests:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL international): minimum score of 550 paper-based (or 213 computer-based or 80 internet-based). Please notice that the code number for the EMGS programme is /4688/.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): minimum score of 6.5 (with no section less than 6.5)
Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE): Grades A, B, C
Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): Grades A, B
Applicants who have received a degree from a university at which English was the language of instruction are not requested to take one of the previously mentioned proficiency tests. An official certificate from the applicant’s university is required to confirm that English was the language of instruction.
10. Proof of knowledge of another foreign language
(different from your native language and English) at the A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (to be proven by a high school or university certificate/transcript and/or language certificates or proof of participation in language courses)
English native speakers need to provide proof of knowledge of a first and a second language other than their mother tongue at the A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
11. One recommendation letter by an academic teacher
In the event that a hard copy is requested, this letter should be sent in a separate closed envelope. Whether electronic or sent as a hard copy, the recommendation later must be signed by the person recommending the candidate and include the reference’s name and e-mail address. It should be typed on official letterhead or feature the reference’s institutional stamp.
12. If applicable, proof of extracurricular activities and work experience (e.g. copies of employment certificates)
Please note that not submitting all requested documents by the application deadline might result in a lower score during the selection procedure and thus lead to a reduced chance to receive admission for the programme and/or to be nominated for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
Documents to submit after admission

You will be requested to post the following documents to Leipzig University by mid-August (the address will be announced with the admission letter).
- Simple copy of high school diploma (secondary school leaving certificate, e.g. Baccalaureate, A Levels) or equivalent or equivalent (AND certified translation into English or German, if the document is not issued in English or German)
- Simple copy of official high school transcripts (AND certified translation into English or German, if the document is not issued in English or German)
- Simple copy of university diplomas (evidence of all completed degrees (e.g. Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diplom) (AND certified translation into English or German, if the document is not issued in English or German
- In case you have not received your degree by mid-August, please hand in a confirmation about passing all examinations filled out by your university instead
- Simple copy of official transcripts from your university (AND certified translation, if the document is not issued in English or German
- Simple copy of English test results
As indicated above, some documents must be included as certified translations in English or Geman AND the original language.

Use of data
Please be informed that in case you are selected for admission to the programme and/or proposed for an Erasmus Mundus grant your data may be used for the purposes of evaluation purposes in order to efficiently manage the project, and producing statistics and could be made available to the EACEA, the European Commission, the European External Action Service staff, as well as to other stakeholders of the Erasmus+ programme, such as Erasmus+ National Agencies, National Erasmus+ Offices and the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association as well as staff of any of the participating universities.
