Expanding staffing

GoLocal has revamped the site. We're adding more features, enabling better performance, and providing more content.

The new layout is designed to be faster, allowing for more comprehensive search functions, and offering a more responsive mobile experience.

“We have worked for the past year to develop a structure to provide a better experience and to be flexible for the addition of an increasing number of features on the site. We are committed to continuing to expand our content and coverage of southern New England,” said Josh Fenton, CEO and Co-Founder of GoLocal24.

Mobile Responsiveness -- and More Content

Roughly six-in-ten U.S. adults (58%) regularly get news on a mobile device -- 19 percentage points higher than the 39% who often get news on a desktop or laptop computer, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.

"Today, we see 61 percent of our readers and viewers accessing GoLocal on their phone or tablet. On some occasions, when articles go viral, that percentage jumps to over 80 percent," said Fenton.

Over the past 18 months, GoLocal has developed a litany of new features to bring readers -- and viewers -- the best content in Rhode Island.

GoLocal LIVE weekly broadcasts from the State House - new in 2018

GoLocal has added GoLocal LIVE, which is 12 to 15 hours of live broadcasting each week of interviews with everyone from world leaders to local community organizers. In total, GoLocal has interviewed more than 1,600 artists, scientists, Grammy Award winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, local business and non-profit leaders, and more.

GoLocalProv now broadcasts to nine different social media platforms simultaneously, including Facebook, Twitter (and Periscope), YouTube live, Livestream, as well as on GoLocal's website.

Added Investments

During the legislative session, GoLocal LIVE broadcasts weekly from the Rhode Island State House.

GoLocal has also invested in independent polling by joining into a partnership with John Della Volpe of Harvard and SocialSphere — who is arguably one of the most respected pollsters in America.

To support local arts, GoLocal built a music studio In partnership with Alex and Ani and has broadcasted 35 live music concerts at The Alex and Ani Lounge since March.

Award winning cartoonist R.W. Alley

Earlier this year, R.W. Alley, the award-winning illustrator of Paddington Bear, joined the team and creates weekly political cartoons.

For the last twenty years, Alley has illustrated Michael Bond’s Paddington Bear books, in all their formats. He has also created with his wife, author Zoë B. Alley, two large comic formats retelling classic fairy tales that have garnered numerous awards including a Washington Post Best Book of the Year note.

And, GoLocal continues to add staff. The expansion provides a greater depth in the management of the company, including a new reporter, two new hosts on GoLocal LIVE, and an additional columnist.

“While others are cutting staff and cutting content, we believe there is a tremendous need for more — more locally focused journalism from a locally owned company — not a consolidated media group owned by a private equity or venture capital fund,” said Fenton.
