How can the private sector contribute to anti-corruption? Manisha Dogra, VP Sustainability for Asia at Telenor, talks about how responsible business conduct is part of her company's business strategy. Corruption is bad for business, evidence shows that the aggregate growth and firm performance is lower in settings where corruption prevails. Research by PWC (2007) found that companies with anti-corruption programs have 50% less incidents of corruption when compared to those who don't invest in such programs. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports governments, private sector and civil society in building transparent and accountable institutions for sustainable development. The multi-year regional project Promoting a fair business environment in ASEAN is implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the UK government and a wide array of stakeholders to promote responsible business practices and fair, transparent and predictable business environment in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.
