The forum, themed “A Business Perspective: Prevention on Corruption”, will cover various aspects of integrity faced by businesses operating in Indonesia, including existing challenges, measures and implications of existing regulations on anticorruption for the private sector.

Also of concern are efforts that businesses can make to strengthen business integrity practices, especially in anticorruption initiatives.

With over 60 partners of MNCs, SOEs and national companies, IBL has continuously strived to more than just leverage business targets. The organization has a mission to push for integrity among business players and has anchored its activities on the mentioned objective.

It defines integrity as an adherence to good principles since it believes that this adherence will help create a merit-based and level playing field for business players in the country.

The forum in April 2020 will be a day-long discussion, featuring former commissioner of the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption Bertrand de Speville, former commissioner of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and former director of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities Amien Sunaryadi, the KPK’s senior commissioner and other senior business executives and government officials.

The forum also seeks to learn from cases from other Southeast Asian countries in preventing and combating corruption.

“The situation faced by business stakeholders in Indonesia is still colored by the controversies regarding how corruption cases are handled and the growing demand on prevention instead of only prosecution,” IBL’s press release stated on the urgency of the forum.

“Keeping this current situation in mind, IBL is inviting businesses to return to a basic understanding of corruption using integrity as a framework and examine its implications for business entities, whether regarding investment, operation or business sustainability matters.”

IBL stated that the forum also sought to address current issues that intersected with the business sector, like climate change and the digital transformation of societies.

In collaboration with various Indonesian, multinational and international agencies, such as the UN Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC) and the ASEAN CSR Network, IBL has organized the Business Integrity Forum since 2014 as part of its effort to fulfill its dream of stimulating a collective action to strengthen business integrity in Indonesia.

IBL firmly believes that doing business in a manner that is ethical and full of integrity will not only help businesses create an ecosystem required for them to thrive but also contribute to the betterment of the societies in which they operate. The organization underlines integrity as adherence to good principles.

Since its formation in 1998, long before it launched the forum, the organization has also been organizing many different activities to attain the aforementioned objectives, driven by stated ideal, including hosting and facilitating numerous in-house and out-house company workshops as well as chief executive officer (CEO) breakfasts focusing on the issue of business ethics. Partners in the events include, among others, the USAID, the US-based Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), GIZ from Germany and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

The organization has also been running an intensive online campaign, which includes blog postings and social media content creation, focusing on how business practitioners can uphold ethics and integrity as core principles.
