Nausori Town Council Former Rates Officer Sentenced

A former Acting Senior Rates Officer with the Nausori Town Council received a sentence of 20 months in the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Timaima Mocevakaca with 21 counts of Causing a Loss in 2013.

She was found guilty in March this year for all counts of causing a loss of $3,092.90 FJD to the Nausori Town Council by failing to deposit money received as rate payments from the public throughout 2010.

In delivering her Sentence, Resident Magistrate Lasitha Chaminda emphasized that Mocevakaca was convicted of the offences she committed out of greed.

Mocevakaca will serve 12 months in prison with the remaining eight (8) months suspended for three (3) years.
