Archival Encounters:
Cinema and the Printed Word

A digital exhibition of film tie-in books, companion publications and novelisations, drawn from the collections of the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum.

In this exhibiton, we explore the histories of these artefacts, treating what is often considered to be disposible memorabilia as valuable primary sources that reveal something of the history of popular cinema. Tracing the connection between these books and the shifting landscapes of film merchandising, advertising, exhibition and production, we proivide an engaging exploration of the ways in which the items exhibited here reveal the sometimes untold histories of cinema and its place in our day-to-day lives (and bookshelves!).
