IBD UK Benchmarking

IBD UK Benchmarking

The 2023 IBD Patient Survey and Service Surveys are now CLOSED. Thank you to everyone who took part. We will be analysing the data and producing reports in due course.

What is the IBD UK Benchmarking 2023?

The IBD UK Benchmarking was developed to encourage IBD services to recognise what they are doing well and identify where they need to improve, based on the IBD Standards 2019.

It includes the Service Survey, completed by individual IBD services, and the IBD Patient Survey, completed by people with IBD using each service.

The 2023 IBD Patient Survey and 2023 Service Survey recently took place, in order to reveal the first true picture of IBD care and treatment in the UK since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Both surveys are now closed.

IBD UK Benchmarking 2019

The original IBD UK Benchmarking was completed in 2019. Over 72% of IBD services completed the Service Survey in 2019/20, while 10,222 people with IBD across the UK completed the IBD Patient Survey.

The combination of patient views and comparison against the IBD Standards provided a powerful and unique opportunity to push up standards of care for everyone with IBD. It led to service-specific reports that helped provide the evidence for more staffing resources and a national report that has opened the door for conversations at a national level on the need to improve care for people living with IBD.

The diagram below, from 2019/2020, shows how the IBD UK Benchmarking fits into our aim to ensure that everyone with IBD has consistent, safe, high-quality personalised care, whatever their age and wherever they live in the UK.
