Libraries re-opening

29 June 2020

Books on a library shelf

Library services are planning for a return to some on-campus services. Find out about the new click and collect service and the opening of study spaces.

Subject to full building-level risk assessments, and implementation of any mitigations identified by these Library services is planning for a return to some on-campus services. Timescales are subject to the completion of the risk assessments and modifications.  Plans will be kept under review at each stage to ensure that safety for users and library staff can be managed effectively.

Click and collect service

A click and collect service is being established for collection and return of books, with up to 3 collection points to be made available on campus, with a postal delivery and return service to supplement this for those who are not on campus (subject to re-opening of University post room).

The existing library reservations system will be used to place reservations.

Availability of items will be significantly reduced, due to the need to quarantine returned books, and the delay anticipated when items are sent and returned by post.  No fines will be charged.

Study spaces

Following implementation of the click and collect service some study spaces will be made available in the ASSL, Bute, Trevithick, Health and Science Libraries, and in the Julian Hodge Study Centre. These will be available on a strict appointment basis, Monday - Friday 09:00 – 17:00. Access to study spaces and IT facilities will be significantly reduced in order to comply with social distancing requirements and browse access to the collections will not be available.

There will be delays on the availability of items due to the need to quarantine returned books, and also potential delays if items are sent and returned by post.

Library enquiry services will continue to be delivered remotely.

All students are encouraged to contact their subject librarian to request specific materials required for teaching and/or research; and we will seek to obtain electronic versions where these are available (noting that not everything is available online).
