Welcome to iPres 2022

International Conference on Digital Preservation

12th to 16th September 2022

Technology & Innovation Centre, Glasgow, Scotland

iPres 2022 in Glasgow

Digital preservation is a shared challenge, and it’s the challenge the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has faced since our foundation 20 years ago. In September 2022, it was our privilege and our very great pleasure for you to join us as we celebrated twenty years together, in our home city of Glasgow, at the International Conference on Digital Preservation, iPres 2022. Over the course of five days, delegates participated in person at the impressive Technology & Innovation Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, or joined the online conference program.

All peer reviewed submissions presented at iPres 2022 are bundled in the proceedings, ensuring visibility and promotion of both academic research work and the projects and initiatives of institutions involved in digital preservation practices.  The majority of the presentations at iPres 2022 have been recorded. After an exclusive preview period for conference delegates, the recordings are now available on general release. The photos taken at iPres 2022 can be found on flickr.  We look forward to seeing you at iPres 2023 in Urbana, Illinois in September 2023!

Welcome to Glasgow

Scotland has a significant and active digital preservation community, with a great many research and development projects based here, and Glasgow has such a great deal to offer. We are excited to share it with existing and new friends in digital preservation.

On the banks of the River Clyde, on the beautiful west coast of Scotland and set amid some of Europe’s most dramatic land and seascapes, Glasgow is a friendly, cosmopolitan city with beautiful architecture, and numerous cultural attractions.

Getting here couldn’t be easier – the city is well served by three airports, it is well connected by train from across the UK, it is easily accessible by Scotland’s extensive road network and travelling by sea is made simple by ferry connections. With a wide range of competitively priced accommodation and excellent public transport, Glasgow is a great place for our community to come together.

An ancient city reborn through many generations, Glasgow offers more than 20 world-class museums and art galleries and boasts one of Europe’s largest civic arts collections with works by Dali, Van Gogh, Degas and Monet. Cultural highlights include the globally recognized collections at Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, the vibrant contemporary art offering at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) and Riverside Museum, the city’s museum of transport and a recent European Museum of the Year. We welcome you to Glasgow just as The Burrell Collection re-opens after a multi-million-pound refurbishment.
Glasgow is also home to Scottish Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Scottish Ballet. While visiting Glasgow for the conference, delegates can enjoy a range of regular arts performances across the city. And as a UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow hosts an average of 130 music events each week.

With an extraordinary architectural landscape, Glasgow showcases the Victorian splendor of Glasgow City Chambers, the Art Nouveau magic of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Glasgow School of Art, as well as Zaha Hadid’s ultra-modern design for Riverside Museum. The city’s skyline is truly iconic!

Described as the ‘best and most eclectic dining city in Europe,’ with over 2000 restaurant and cafés to choose from, you won’t be short of somewhere to eat in Glasgow. We are also one of the friendliest cities in the world, so why no join the locals for a ‘wee dram’ in one of our 700 bars and cozy pubs.

The Gaelic translation of Glasgow literally means Dear Green Place – a very appropriate name for a city which boasts over 90 parks and gardens within its city boundaries.

We’re known for being one of the world’s friendliest cities. Come and find out why.
