This workshop aims to empower Brazilian researchers and English teachers by developing autonomy in academic English through state-of-the-art language tools.
ADMISSION CRITERIA

For researchers and university teachers:
-
Minimum B1 level of English;
-
Be a university lecturer, researcher, or postgraduate student at a Brazilian university (any disciplinary area);

Commitment to write a research article (or dissertation/thesis) in English;

Lattes CV.

For English teachers:
-
Minimum B2 level of English;
-
Be an English teacher or a Letras student (priority given to (i) experienced teachers; (ii) postgraduate and 3rd/4th year undergraduate students);

Commitment to support Brazilian researchers with their English;

Lattes CV.

Workshop participant numbers are limited. Preference will be given to candidates with higher levels of proficiency in English. Selection will also be based on curriculum analysis.
WHO ARE THE WORKSHOPS FOR?​

Brazilian researchers (academics and postgraduate students) wishing to publish in English.
-
Brazilian teachers of English wishing to specialize in academic English teaching.
INFORMATION

All participants will receive a free six-month license to continue using the Sketch Engine after the end of the workshop.
-
For graduate students, the workshop may be worth 2 credits, upon presentation of final work.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The workshops aim to support:
-
Researchers working in different disciplinary areas in the use of state-of-the-art language tools to improve and gain autonomy in academic English writing;
-
English teachers working with academic English through the use of corpus linguistics and data-driven learning.
Workshops will be led by University of Surrey/UNESP/UFRGS experts and will make use of Sketch Engine tools https://www.sketchengine.eu/. Participants will be given a free, 6-month license sponsored by Sketch Engine to continue using the software after the workshop.
