This part time (0.25FTE), AHRC-funded post is available immediately for 6 months to support the work of Dr Ana Martins.
The post
The successful applicant will be at an Early Career stage. They will be based in Brazil, as research will involve visits to archives in that country. They will have a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant area, skills in archival and digital research, experience of communicating ideas to various audiences, and excellent knowledge of Afro-Brazilian literature, culture and history.
The post will include: conducting online interviews with artists and project collaborators, and conducting archive work (either online or on-site) in relevant archives in Brazil. In order to minimize the risk of encountering Covid-19, and to manage restrictions currently in place in Brazil, such as archive closures and capacity limits, the successful applicant will be encouraged to conduct online archive work whenever possible. The post also includes: undertaking a broad range of basic research activity, such as preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of field work, developing questionnaires and conducting surveys; writing up the results of own research; providing administrative support to the principal investigator and other project researchers as required; and contributing to the production of research reports and publications.

The role will have flexible working arrangements.
The successful candidate will be employed via a local temporary work agency managing employment contracts and payroll on behalf of the University and in compliance with the Brazilian regulations.
